Burning Passion: Love Never Dies novel by Paule Ree PDF Download

Summary

“Drive this woman out!”

“Throw this woman into the sea!”

When he doesn’t know Debbie Nelson’s true identity, Carlos Hilton cold-shoulders her.

“Mr. Hilton, she is your wife,” Carlos’ secretary reminded him. Hearing that, Carlos gives him a cold stare and complained, “why didn’t you tell me earlier?”

From then on, Carlos spoils her rotten. Little did everyone expect that they would get a divorce.

Chapter 1 The Divorce Agreement

“Philip, this is the divorce agreement. I’ve already signed it. Please give it to Carlos.”

Debbie Nelson plucked up her courage and handed the signed agreement to Philip Brown, the steward of the Hilton family.

Philip was shocked by the words “divorce agreement”. His first thought was that Debbie wanted to get a divorce so as to carve up the property that belonged to Carlos Hilton.

But as he looked through the document, he saw that she wanted to give up everything, including her share of the mutual property.

Philip heaved a heavy sigh. “Debbie, why are you being ridiculous? Why would you want to divorce Mr. Hilton and even choose to give up your property?”

Debbie was only a college student, and she had no parents. It was unwise for her to ask for a divorce now, much less give up her property that was worth quite a fortune.

Embarrassed, Debbie looked away and scratched the back of her head. “Carlos and I have been married for three years, but our marriage only exists on paper. I don’t want to waste my time on him anymore,” she admitted, instead of hiding the reason from Philip.

She had a life of her own. She did not want this nominal marriage to take her youth.

In her eyes, Carlos was merely a stranger whom she had never met literally, so she had nothing to lose if she let him go. Besides, this marriage was arranged by her late parents. She had no feelings for it at all.

“I see. It seems that you’ve already made up your mind. Today… No. I will give this to Mr. Hilton tomorrow.”

Debbie let out a sigh of relief. “Thank you, Philip,” she uttered with a lovely smile on her face.

Philip stood up to leave. But before he took a step, he turned to Debbie and stated, “Debbie, Mr. Hilton is a good man. In my opinion, you two are a perfect match. I hope you think it through again.”

‘A perfect match?’ Debbie repeated in her mind. But she had not even seen her husband in the past three years. Even if they were a perfect match, so what?

A bitter smile formed on her lips. She took a deep breath and firmly replied, “Phillip, I’ve made up my mind.”

The next afternoon, Phillip still had not received a call from Debbie. He had expected her to regret her hasty decision to get a divorce or at least add some conditions to the agreement. However, she did not.

Resigned, Philip took out his phone and dialed a number. As soon as he was connected to Carlos, he said, “Mr. Hilton, there’s a document that needs your signature.”

“What kind of document?” Carlos asked indifferently.

Philip hesitated for a moment before answering, “It’s… a divorce agreement.”

Carlos, who was dealing with some papers in his office, stiffened.

It was only then that he remembered he had a wife.

As Phillip received no response from the other end of the line, he suggested, “Mr. Hilton, why don’t you talk with Mrs. Hilton about it?”

“How much does she want?” Carlos asked coldly.

“Nothing. She even wishes to give up her share of your mutual property.”

“She wants to give up everything?”

“That’s right. But Mr. Hilton, I would like to remind you that your father is not in good health at the moment. If he finds out about this, he will lose his temper again. What’s more, if the news that your wife has abandoned you spreads, I’m afraid it will leave a bad impact on you and the company,” Philip concluded calmly.

“Very well. Put the agreement in my office. I’ll return to Alorith in two days.”

“Yes, Mr. Hilton.” Philip did not dare to say anything more.

After all, once Carlos had made up his mind, nobody could change his decision.

In the Blue Night Bar in Alorith.

As the night fell, more and more young people entered the bar.

Debbie usually wore casual clothes. But since today was her birthday, she had decided to wear a pink dress trimmed with lace. It was unusual for her to dress like a lady. Several classmates of hers pulled out their phones and took pictures with her.

While they were enjoying the party, a fat drunkard appeared out of nowhere and wrapped an arm around Debbie’s waist.

“Hey, beautiful lady. Let’s also take a photo.”

As the man sexually harassed her, Debbie slapped him across the face with all her strength.

The drunkard sobered up in an instant. He gritted his teeth in anger and walked closer, intending to teach Debbie a lesson.

Fortunately, her classmates stood in front of her to protect her.

Debbie was a sheer beauty. This was not the first time she had experienced being harassed by filthy men.

One of Debbie’s classmates looked at the drunkard up and down and commented with utter disdain, “Can you behave yourself? It’s embarrassing for an old man like you to annoy a young girl.”

“Next time, look at yourself in the mirror before you leave your house. How did you have the nerve to take a picture with a decent lady? You sick fuck,” another mocked.

The man was enraged that the group of young people insulted his appearance. Fuming with anger, he put down his drink and bellowed, “How dare you?! I won’t let you off!”

As soon as he said those words, he waved his hand. Soon, a group of hooligans surrounded Debbie and her classmates.

Those who had attended Debbie’s birthday were her college students. Afraid they would make trouble for themselves, they did not dare to fight off campus.

Meanwhile, Debbie’s eyes widened in horror upon realizing that they were outnumbered by those hooligans. So, without hesitation, she shouted, “Run!”

Her classmates were also aware that this was not the right time to be a hero. Without wasting a second, they picked up their bags and bolted.

The hooligans chased them around in all directions.

Unfortunately for Debbie, she could not run fast as she was wearing a dress and high heels. She got separated from her companions before she could even reach the exit.

Because of this, she took off her shoes and ran barefoot.

When she turned a corner, she suddenly caught sight of a familiar figure.

Meanwhile, the hooligans were getting closer. Debbie, who was a bit tipsy, had no time to think of a plan, so she just threw herself into the man’s arms and held him in desperation. “Honey!” she called in the most coquettish voice that she could muster.

Would he find out that Janet married him in place of her sister? Would their marriage be a romantic tale or an utter disaster? Read on to unravel Janet and Ethan’s journey.

Chapter 1 Cheating On Her

“I have given myself to you. Why don’t you break up with Janet?” the woman asked in a seductive, breathless voice. She was half-naked and hovering above a man.

“Don’t mention her name when we are making out.” The man was so excited that he squeezed the woman’s breasts and moaned in pleasure.

The woman seemed dissatisfied as she didn’t get the answer she wanted. “No way! She is an adopted daughter — even our dog holds a more important position in our family than she does. What’s so good about her?”

The man didn’t say anything. He gripped the woman’s waist and thrust harder, which made her scream and moan his name.

Janet Lind stood in front of the door, listening to everything in the room. Her tired eyes turned cold as she understood what was going on.

She had just returned from the hospital.

Hannah, who had raised Janet ever since she was a child, was diagnosed with advanced liver cirrhosis three months ago. The woman needed a liver transplant right away. Janet had to gather the money to pay the medical expenses.

To make her situation worse, her younger sister hooked up with her boyfriend. Janet felt her life was falling apart.

“Did you hear me? You have to tell me your decision tonight. It’s either her or me. The choice is yours.” Jocelyn Lind pounded on Steve Carter’s chest, desperate to hear his answer.

Janet kicked the door open and glared at the couple. “Let me save you the trouble. He is just a man. You can have him if you want.”

Although Janet sounded nonchalant, her heart broke to watch her boyfriend cheat on her with her sister.

Steve was Janet’s college classmate. He was a handsome man from a wealthy family. He had chased after Janet for three years.

He had confessed his love to her again right before their graduation.

It was on the playground of their college. Many people were around, and almost all the students had witnessed the romantic scene. The crowd cheered, and Janet finally agreed to be his girlfriend.

The pain of betrayal crushed her. Looking at the two people in front of her, Janet clenched her fists, her nails sinking into her flesh.

Steve hurriedly pushed Jocelyn away, put on his pants, and got out of the bed.

Jocelyn almost fell down. Janet’s words ignited her anger.

She had put a lot of effort into hooking up with a wealthy, handsome man like Steve.

Janet had won his heart without doing anything, which infuriated Jocelyn.

After all, Janet was just an adoptive daughter.

“What the hell are you saying? You sound like you dumped Steve. It’s Steve who dumped you, bitch!” Jocelyn sneered as she pulled the quilt closer to her body. Then, she looked at Steve and asked, “Steve, what did you say to me just now? Tell that to Janet!”

Steve had slept with Jocelyn purely out of impulse. The woman had seduced him, and he lost control of himself.

He kneeled and grabbed Janet’s wrist. “Janet, please forgive me. I didn’t know what I was thinking.”

Although tears filled her eyes, Janet looked at him with disgust. Once Janet set her mind to something, no one could change it.

She withdrew her hand from Steve’s hold. “I’m sorry, Steve. I don’t want anything that’s tainted by Jocelyn. You two are a perfect match. Let’s break up.”

Jocelyn was taken aback. Steve was on the verge of a breakdown, but there was not even a trace of sadness on Janet’s face. Anger surged through her veins because she didn’t achieve what she had wanted.

Janet didn’t have the time to talk to them. Jocelyn had always been competing with her ever since they were kids and she enjoyed taking away whatever belonged to Janet. She used to snatch Janet’s toys. Now that they had grown up, she snatched her boyfriend as well.

Janet was used to it. She was only worried about Hannah’s medical expenses now.

Just as she was about to leave, she heard the clacking of footsteps from the corridor.

“It’s late at night. What’s with all the noise?”

Janet’s adopted parents, Bernie Lind and Fiona Duncan, rushed over after hearing the commotion.

Bernie walked into the room first. His eyes widened in horror when he saw his daughter sitting on the bed wearing nothing — except for the quilt wrapped around her. “What the hell are you doing? You are going to get married soon. What are you doing with another man?” he bellowed.

Jocelyn hugged herself and looked at Bernie with bloodshot eyes. She gritted her teeth to suppress her rage.

The Lester family and the Lind family had an agreement to get their kids married when they grew up. Her fiance was an illegitimate child, and the Lester family had driven him out of the house a long time ago. He was poor and didn’t even have a decent job. He was just an idler who wasted his time doing nothing. Jocelyn didn’t want to marry him.

She felt she deserved someone better than him.

“I’m pregnant!” Jocelyn said, pointing at Steve. “I am pregnant with his child. So I can’t marry anyone else. You better cancel the wedding.”

Steve was dumbfounded. He had slept with Jocelyn only a few times. How could she get pregnant?

“What nonsense! You must marry into the Lester family!” Bernie was fuming with rage. He wanted to slap Jocelyn for acting stupid.

After all, the wedding was a matter of his prestige. What could he tell the Lester family if they asked the reason for calling off the wedding?

Fiona protectively stood in front of her daughter. She was protective of Jocelyn and seldom scolded her. Her husband was seething mad, and she couldn’t watch him shout at Jocelyn.

“Bernie, why are you mad at Jocelyn?” Fiona cried. “Janet is also a daughter of the Lind family. She can also marry into the Lester family.”

Bernie and Fiona didn’t have any child for the first few years after they got married. Due to the pressure of the elders of the Lind family, they had to adopt Janet. Years later, Fiona finally got pregnant and gave birth to Jocelyn.

The whole thing only made her hate Janet even more. Janet’s existence was proof of her infertility. The mere sight of her adopted daughter irked Fiona.

After giving birth to Jocelyn, Fiona became partial toward her daughter and despised Janet.

Later, as time went by, Janet grew up to be a better woman than her daughter in every aspect. That seemed to intensify her hatred for Janet even more.

Fiona’s words enraged Janet. “You had agreed to get Jocelyn married into the Lester family, not me,” she roared. “Why are you planning to get me married just because your sweet daughter has been banging someone?”

“We have raised you all these years. It’s time for you to repay our kindness, Janet,” Fiona said in a low voice, her eyes twinkling with cunningness. “Don’t you want that maid to have the surgery? We will pay for the medical expenses as long as you marry into the Lester family in place of Jocelyn.”

A complacent smile emerged on Jocelyn’s face. She felt Janet and the illegitimate son of the Lester family would be perfect for each other.

Janet gritted her teeth as Fiona’s words infuriated her. However, the doctor’s words flashed in her mind. Hannah didn’t have much time left.

Janet had just graduated and couldn’t afford to pay for Hannah’s treatment.

Although Bernie and Fiona adopted Janet, they never really cared about her. Hannah, the maid of the Lind family, raised Janet. Hannah was like the grandmother Janet never had. She couldn’t leave her alone.

Noticing her hesitation, Fiona walked up to Janet. “You will have to marry someone in the future. Why don’t you help us by marrying the son of the Lester family? I will give you the money as soon as you get married.”

Janet’s feet trembled as everyone in the room stared at her. She needed money to pay Hannah’s medical fee.

Tears finally streamed down her cheeks. She lowered her head and replied in a low voice. “Okay, I’ll marry him.”

Chapter 1 Ending A Marriage

“Here’s the divorce agreement, Philip. I’ve already signed it. Please give it to Carlos.”

It was difficult for Debbie Nelson to work up the nerve to hand the divorce agreement to Philip Brown, the Hilton family’s steward.

Sighing in resignation, Philip went over the document and noticed clauses that made him frown. He looked at the girl sharply and bellowed, “Debbie!” Incredulous, he asked, “Do you realize how stupid this is? I can understand if you want to divorce Carlos. After all, you haven’t seen him for the past three years. But why aren’t you asking for any money?”

Debbie was an undergraduate with no father or mother. In Philip’s opinion, she shouldn’t want a divorce, let alone get out of the marriage without any money.

Debbie scratched the back of her head in embarrassment. She was well aware that Philip always treated her as a daughter, so she had no plans to keep anything from him. “I… I want to drop out of university,” she stammered.

“What? Why do you suddenly want to leave university? What happened? Are you being bullied?” The steward’s eyes widened in astonishment.

“No, no, no! You’re overreacting, Philip. You already know, I-I don’t like studying. So, I don’t want to waste my time in university,” she explained.

The excuse of dropping out of university was lame but the only one that came to mind quickly to stall him off. But she was not telling anyone the real reason for wanting a divorce.

She was silent for a while, as several thoughts ran through her mind. ‘Tomorrow is my 21st birthday and also the third wedding anniversary.

I’m still young. I don’t want this hollow marriage to stand in the way of pursuing true love.

I’ve never even seen Carlos in person. My father arranged this marriage. How can anyone live like this?’ she thought desperately.

Sensing that the girl was not about to share anything else, Philip conceded, “It appears you’ve made up your mind, so I will…” He waited for her to say something. “I’ll hand the divorce papers to Carlos tomorrow,” the steward said with a deep sigh when she didn’t respond.

“Thank you so much, Philip!” She let out a huge sigh of relief before giving the man a sweet smile.

But Philip could not help himself as he stared at the young girl. “Debbie, Carlos is a good man. I believe you are a perfect match, so I do hope you will think this through carefully and reconsider. If you change your mind, you may call me anytime,” he said sincerely.

Of all he said, two words stood out that made Debbie cringe. ‘Perfect match? He didn’t even show up at the wedding! The man was at a dinner reception for a foreign president at that time. Even the photograph on our marriage certificate was Photoshopped.

In the last three years, I haven’t even laid eyes on him. So, why is Philip saying that we are a perfect match?’ Debbie couldn’t control the sarcastic thoughts in her head.

Finally coming to her senses, the young lady took a deep breath before speaking again. She had intended to say, “I’ve made up my mind,” but as a sign of respect for Philip who was truly concerned for her, she uttered, “Okay.”

Thinking that she might have a change of heart, Philip waited until the next afternoon to inform Carlos about the divorce papers. But to his disappointment, she didn’t call him. Slowly, he brought out his cell phone and dialed a number. “Carlos, I have a document that needs your signature,” he said respectfully.

“What document is that?” came the cold reply. He noted a hint of impatience in Carlos’s voice.

After hesitating briefly, the steward answered, “A divorce agreement.”

Then his hand holding the pen froze as Carlos Hilton let the words sink in. He closed his eyes and rubbed his brows thoughtfully.

It quickly dawned on him as he thought, ‘Oh, I have a wife. If Philip didn’t call me now, I wouldn’t even remember that I am married and have a wife.’

“Just put the papers in my study. I’ll be back in Alorith in a couple of days,” Carlos said coolly.

“Alright,” Philip acknowledged, and then hung up.

Meanwhile, at the Blue Night Bar in Alorith, the bar was dimly lit but packed with people.

Young men and women flocked to the establishment which was very popular in the city.

Inside Room 501 was a table littered with beer, wine, champagne and a variety of snacks.

The room was the venue for a birthday party. The celebrant was Debbie, who turned 21 that day.

Nicknamed “Tomboy” by her classmates, Debbie now wore a pink lace dress. This was one of the very few occasions that she donned something feminine instead of her usual attire of jeans and shirts. Several of the female guests whipped out their phones to have a selfie with Debbie.

After everyone had their fill of taking photos, the celebrant started to have fun by drinking with her classmates. Stacked in one corner of the room were the many presents Debbie received from friends and classmates.

A slightly tipsy young man broke out in a song, with his arm slung around another boy’s shoulders. “I knew you were trouble when you walked in…” he warbled.

His voice was so grating that many of the girls covered their ears and groaned.

“Hey, Jared! Stop that singing. Let’s just play games that won’t bust anybody’s eardrums.” It was Kasie Garcia, one of Debbie’s roommates, who called out to Jared Hampton.

She was a cheerful girl, full of confidence, who always got people’s attention.

Her suggestion made everyone in the room turn silent. The boys and girls in the room turned to look at Kasie, waiting for her instructions.

She was a known party animal, and was popular among the classmates.

Looking at everyone with mischief in her eyes, Kasie said, “Let’s play Truth or Dare!” A cunning smile crossed her lips as guests balked at the suggestion.

Several of them cast a scornful glance at the girl. “Kasie, that game sucks!” This time, Jared, who belonged to the rich second generation, got back at Kasie. He rolled his eyes in disgust because he thought it was a boring game.

Kasie stared at Jared defiantly and continued, “Today is Debbie’s 21st birthday, so we’ll make the game more exciting!” She flashed an evil smile that made some of the guests uncomfortable.

Since all people at the party were students, many were still pure and innocent. They were familiar with the game; the consequences for the dares were usually singing the high notes in Mariah Carey’s ‘Loving You’, carrying the heaviest guy around the room, or singing a duet with the opposite sex.

But Kasie had something else in mind for Debbie. The celebrant’s cheeks were already crimson from too much champagne and wine. As the first round started, Kasie winked at the others, who quickly caught on to what she was planning.

“The loser in this round has to go out the door, turn right, and then kiss the first person of the opposite sex he or she runs into. But it will be a kiss on the lips instead of a peck on the cheek. If he or she opts to skip this consequence, there is an alternative. He or she has to drink ten glasses of wine,” Kasie declared.

Everyone became excited about the game. They were all eager to find out who the first loser would be. This time Jared snorted in disgust but said nothing. He knew there was already collusion.

After playing Rock-Paper-Scissors, everyone turned to look at the celebrant, who was dumbfounded.

Debbie stared at her hand, which formed the scissors symbol, and then glanced at the others who held out Rocks. Her eyes widened, and her jaw slackened.

“I hate you, Kasie!” she screamed. Remembering the consequence, the birthday girl felt like crying. She was already drunk, and couldn’t afford ten more glasses of wine.

Mustering her courage, she took several deep breaths before opening the door.

Following instructions, she turned right.

Standing in the hallway was a man dressed in a crisp white shirt, black slacks, and black leather shoes.

He looked to be in his mid-20s and stood around 180 cm tall. His face was all angles and planes, from his forehead, cheeks to his jawline. His looks were the type that would stand out in a crowd.

His eyes, however, were so cold that Debbie couldn’t help but shiver when he glanced at her.

“Wow, he is one handsome dude! Tomboy, hurry up! We’re watching you,” Kasie said in a loud whisper. Debbie stood frozen for a moment. She was busy thinking, ‘He looks somewhat familiar. Where have I met him before?’

But Kasie’s voice broke into her thoughts, so she took a deep breath and plucked up more courage.

Still there was this niggling thought, ‘I think I’ve met him before. Never mind! I’d better make this quick.’

Bravely, she walked up to the man, gave him a sweet smile and stood on tiptoe. His cologne wafted through her nose.

Carlos was looking for a quiet place to make a phone call when he was stopped by a girl in the hallway.

He frowned in annoyance as Debbie approached him.

Something clicked in his mind. ‘Why does she look so familiar? Her eyes…’ Carlos thought, trying to recall the face.

As he pondered who the girl was, Debbie planted a soft kiss on his lips and caught him off-guard.

On her wedding night, Natalie’s stepmother set her up to marry Jarvis, a disfigured and disabled man. Fortunately, she managed to escape, but little did she know that later she would fall for the man she was betrothed to.

Jarvis pretended to be a poor man, but he didn’t think that he’d fall head over heels for this woman.

Their life went on until one day, Natalie found out her boyfriend’s little secret.

“Huh? How could you have billions of dollars’ worth of assets?” she asked in disbelief.Jarvis didn’t know how to respond.

Being met with silence, she gritted her teeth angrily. “They said that you couldn’t walk, but as far as I can see, you’re strong enough to run a marathon.

“Still, he remained silent.Natalie continued, “They even said that you only have a few years to live. What about now?”

Finally, Jarvis opened his mouth to explain. “Honey, this is all just a misunderstanding. Please calm down. Think about the baby.”

“Jarvis Braxton!”The man knelt down immediately.

Chapter 1 The Stepmother’s Plot

Darkness fell.

The two Rivera sisters were about to get married at the same time.

Wearing a white lace dress, Natalie Rivera looked at her reflection in the mirror. Her makeup was delicate and her eyes shone with happiness.

Today, she was going to marry Rowley O’Brien.

They had been in love for a year now and were finally tying the knot.

“Natalie, you’re so lucky. You’re marrying into the O’Brien family, an aristocratic family in Bloridge.”

Wearing the exact same wedding dress, Alisha Rivera walked in and spoke in a voice dripping with sarcasm.

Seeing how beautiful her sister looked, Alisha was green with envy. How she wished she could scratch Natalie’s pretty face!

Natalie’s expression hardened. “I also want to congratulate you, Alisha. You’re going to be Jarvis Braxton’s fourth wife soon. By the way, I heard that he was seriously injured in a car accident recently and that he couldn’t walk and was dying in a couple of years. If you marry him, you’ll be a widow soon.”

“Natalie Rivera!”

Alisha was so angry that her face turned purple. At the thought that she was going to marry a disabled man while Natalie was going to marry into the O’Brien family, she clenched her fists fiercely.

“Natalie, you don’t know what the future holds for us. Do you really think that you’ll be Mrs. O’Brien forever?”

“Natalie, Alisha, you’re here!” Carrying two cups of coffee in her hands, Flora Rivera strode in with a smile. “Have some caffeine in your system first. The grooms’ cars are still on the way.”

The hypocritical smile on her stepmother’s face made Natalie frown. They had lived under the same roof for over a decade. How could she not know what kind of person Flora was?

Natalie took solace in the fact that she would be moving out of the house soon and wouldn’t have to see Flora and her daughter anymore, so she took the cup of coffee, albeit hesitantly.

“Thanks.” Natalie only took a sip.

“You’re welcome, dear.” Seeing that Natalie drank some, Flora breathed a sigh of relief. “Although you’re not my biological daughter, I’ve always treated you as my own. I’m sad that you’re going to be leaving us.”

Flora’s eyes welled up with tears as she spoke.

Natalie resisted the urge to roll her eyes. No wonder this woman had won the title of the Best Actress; she truly was talented in acting.

When Natalie was eight years old, her mother passed away. In less than a month, her father brought Flora and Alisha home. Alisha was only one month younger than Natalie.

Only then did Natalie realize that her father had long since betrayed her mother.

“Ma’am, the O’Brien family’s car is here,” a servant knocked on the door and updated Flora.

“Oh!” Flora grinned. She winked at the servant and ordered, “Elva, take Natalie to the car.”

Hearing this, Natalie stood up but suddenly felt a little dizzy. Her vision was blurred, so she could only let the servant lead the way.

A black car was parked at the gate. The servant, Elva, put Natalie in the back seat.

From the balcony, Flora watched as the car pulled away. Her smile deepened.

“Mom, are you sure this is going to work? What if Natalie finds out that something’s wrong?” Alisha asked, fidgeting with her dress anxiously.

“Don’t worry, my dear. I’ve taken care of everything. She will take your place and marry into the Braxton family.”

It turned out that the black car belonged to the Braxton family, not the O’Brien family.

Alisha was unconvinced. “But how will I deceive Rowley tonight?”

Flora reminded Alisha cautiously, “As long as you have sex with Rowley tonight, the O’Brien family won’t be able to do anything about it. Remember, don’t let them see your face.”

“Okay, Mom.” Then, Alisha’s expression darkened, her eyes filled with jealousy and hatred. “Mom, I have to make Natalie’s life a living hell. Then she’ll know the consequences of stealing my man.”

Flora sneered coldly. “I doubt that Natalie will survive tonight. Do you know what happened to Jarvis’ ex-wives? They all disappeared mysteriously.”

……

Sitting in the back seat of the car, Natalie still felt extremely dizzy. Her body temperature kept rising, and her cheeks were burning red.

She thought about the coffee Flora had given her and had a sinking feeling.

Only then did she realize that she had fallen right into Flora’s trap.

Flora must’ve spiked her coffee with a drug.

Looking out the window, Natalie noticed that they weren’t headed in the direction of the O’Brien family’s residence. She immediately became vigilant and panicked.

“Stop the car! Stop the car right now!” Natalie shouted at the driver anxiously. “Who are you? Where are you taking me?”

Hearing this, the driver looked at her in the rearview mirror with visible confusion. “Miss Rivera, I’m the Braxton family’s driver. I was sent to pick up Mr. Braxton’s bride.”

“What? The Braxton family?”

It suddenly dawned on Natalie.

Flora’s plan was to make her replace Alisha and marry Jarvis!

“Stop the car now! I’m going to marry into the O’Brien family! You’ve made a mistake!”

She didn’t want to marry into the Braxton family. She refused to let Flora and Alisha succeed.

But the drug’s effect on her body made her feel extremely uncomfortable. Clearly, Flora not only wanted her to marry into the Braxton family but also wanted to destroy her life completely.

“Stop the car now!” Natalie tried her best to stay sober and shouted in a low voice.

“Miss Rivera, we’re almost there. What are you doing?”

The driver was shocked when Natalie suddenly opened the door and jumped out of the car.

She rolled on the ground several times before coming to a complete stop. The severe pain sobered her up immediately.

“Miss Rivera, please get back in the car!”

Seeing that the driver pulled over and jumped out to chase after her, Natalie gritted her teeth and limped away, enduring the searing pain.

The pain was what was keeping her mind clear.

Natalie was anxious. She knew the dire consequences if she was caught.

“Miss Rivera, please don’t run! Come back with me!”

Hearing the driver’s shouts from behind her, Natalie ran even faster. She was so anxious that she almost cried out loud. She didn’t want to marry Jarvis.

It was late at night, enveloping the land in darkness. Natalie could tell that the driver was quickly closing the gap between them. Worse yet, the dizziness in her head was almost unbearable.

Natalie was so overcome with desperation that she didn’t know where to run. Suddenly, she saw a black car parked not far away. A man in a casual suit was leaning against it, busy talking on the phone.

Just as the man was about to get in the car and leave, Natalie limped over with the last of her strength. She begged, “Help me, please. Help me…”

Stunned, the man looked at Natalie with his deep-set eyes.

At this time, the man on the other end of the line was shouting anxiously, “Your bride is about to arrive. Why aren’t you here yet?”

“Shut up!” Without giving the caller a chance to retaliate, the man hung up the phone expressionlessly.

At the same time, the driver ran over. Natalie didn’t have the time to think. She opened the door and got in the car. She pressed her palms together and pleaded, “Please help me! I’m begging you!”

The driver approached the car. “Miss Rivera, please come out of the car. We’re running very late.”

The driver was shocked when he saw the man’s face clearly.

Before he could say anything more, the man cast a cold glance at the driver and barked, “Fuck off!”

Morbid Fascination: You Mean the Whole World to Me by Eirena Khalil PDF Download

Summary

Freya sacrificed her happiness and youth just to save her sick mother’s life and her family’s hospital.

She was forced to marry Brennan, a man who was in a three-month coma after having an accident.

It was a contractual marriage, but it still bonded them together.

Freya already resigned herself to never seeing her vegetative husband awake, but she was in for a surprise.

On their wedding night, her vegetative husband suddenly stirred and opened his eyes.

Freya almost had a heart attack!

What did the future hold for them now that Brennan unexpectedly woke up?

Were they going to stay married? Or would Brennan throw her out?

Chapter 1 Crisis is Coming

“Hey, Dad, I read the email you sent me. Is it for real or what?”

Freya Walton darted home the instant she landed, her mind reeling with disbelief. In just a matter of days, her mother had fallen gravely ill, slipping into an unconscious state, while Healthbridge Hospital founded by her mother hit rock bottom.

“Mom poured her heart and soul into that hospital, Dad. We can’t let it wither away like this. You must have a solution up your sleeve, right?”

With a frown, Fletcher Walton, Freya’s father, set aside his newspaper, and sighed heavily. “Listen, Freya, let’s take a deep breath and sort things out.”

Just as Freya was about to say something more, a sweet, feminine voice cut in. “Don’t go giving Dad a hard time. Let’s face it. Healthbridge Hospital is in a shambles. No amount of money can fix it. It’s better to declare bankruptcy and be done with it.”

Freya’s gaze shifted to the source of the voice.

A young girl, her age perhaps, stood before her, garbed in a flowing dress, exuding an air of haughtiness that made Freya’s hackles rise.

Something about the girl gave Freya a sense of foreboding. “And you are?” she asked, her tone guarded.

The girl’s lips curled into a smile, but her voice dripped with honeyed venom. “I am your younger sister, Hailey Walton.”

Hailey, with her cherubic features, bore an uncanny resemblance to Fletcher in his youth. Her smile was disarmingly sweet.

Yet, her eyes glimmered with malice and repugnance as she leveled a gaze at Freya.

Before Freya could even blink, a middle-aged woman, decked out in a mink coat and heavy makeup, sauntered out of the kitchen, assuming the air of a gracious hostess.

“You must be exhausted, Freya. I’ve whipped up a little something for you,” the woman said, setting the plate on the table.

She then strolled over to Fletcher, seating herself beside him and casting an indifferent look over Freya. “I’m Helen Anderson, and I’ll be taking care of you and Fletcher from now on.”

Freya’s mind reeled in shock as she looked to Fletcher for an explanation. But he averted his gaze, clearly avoiding her questioning eyes. In that instant, Freya’s worst fears were confirmed.

It was clear that Fletcher had been unfaithful to Hilda, and his illegitimate daughter, sired from his mistress, was almost as old as her. In Hilda’s hour of need, he brought his mistress and their love child home.

Freya was overcome with a maelstrom of emotions—grief, sadness, and anger for her mother. She had been living abroad all this time, completely unaware of her family’s turmoil. She never imagined things would take such a drastic turn when she returned home.

The urge to march up to them and slap them senseless coursed through Freya’s veins, but she knew it wasn’t the time to be impulsive. She had more pressing matters at hand.

Freya took a deep, steadying breath and said, “Dad, we can discuss Hailey and Helen later. But the issue at hand is Healthbridge Hospital, and it can’t wait any longer. You’ve been in business in Leryport for so long; you must know how to save the hospital.”

Fletcher averted his gaze, remaining tight-lipped.

Helen put on a show of faux sympathy and sighed. “Freya, you should think about your father’s well-being as well. Healthbridge Hospital is in a financial abyss of hundreds of millions. If we don’t act soon to sell it, we won’t even be able to afford your mother’s medical bills.”

Freya curled her lips in a sneer, her patience wearing thin. “Shut up! Our family matters are none of your business!”

However, she had to admit that Helen had hit the nail on the head.

Hilda’s health was rapidly deteriorating. She was in a coma, dependent on equipment and expensive medicine to cling to life. The medical bills were astronomical, and the Walton family’s savings would soon be depleted.

In this dire situation, the best option was indeed to sell Healthbridge Hospital.

But Freya had grown up with her mother and witnessed her tireless efforts to build and expand the hospital to its current scale.

If Hilda ever woke up to the news that Healthbridge Hospital had been sold, it would be a fatal blow, akin to signing her death warrant.

“Be kind to Helen, Freya!” Fletcher interjected out of the blue. “There is a way to salvage the situation, but it depends on your willingness to help.”

Freya remained silent, as she anticipated his solution would not be one she would like.

Fletcher went on to say, “You’re familiar with the Hayes family, right? They’re one of the most influential and wealthy families in Leryport. If we could get them to assist us, Healthbridge Hospital will be saved. But of course, nothing comes for free.”

He made an intentional pause, relishing in the tense silence that followed.

Knowing that he was waiting for her reply, Freya asked through gritted her teeth, “Well, what do I have to do?”

“It’s very simple. All you have to do is marry Brennan Hayes.”

Freya’s heart dropped. So that was what he wanted from her.

Hailey cackled. “Have you heard of Brennan’s ugly face and his track record? His previous three fiancees have all died, and he is in a vegetative state now. If you marry him, your marriage will be sexless and joyless.”

Freya now understood why her father would make such a proposal. If there wasn’t anything wrong with Brennan, she wasn’t even qualified to marry him.

“Freya, you don’t have to do this if you don’t want to. As your father, I don’t want you to suffer. We’ll just have to sell Healthbridge Hospital,” Fletcher said, feigning concern.

But the threat was clear in his words, and Freya wasn’t fooled. She looked at the trio, and her eyes filled with contempt.

They were all good at acting, but Freya knew their true intentions.

She couldn’t help but think that leaving this toxic environment was probably not a bad idea. After all, she had a chance to save Healthbridge Hospital and her mother, and that was all that mattered.

Taking a deep breath, Freya made her decision. “Fine, I’ll marry him,” she said, her voice steady but her heart racing.

Chapter 1 The Groom Didn’t Show Up

It was so hot.

The woman on the bed felt as though she was in the middle of a desert, lying under the scorching sun.

In Suite 8307, on the top floor of Crowne Hotel.

The thick curtains were drawn, letting in only a sliver of sunlight through the crack.

The man got up to get dressed. After climbing out of bed, he turned his head and looked down at the woman who was sleeping soundly because of exhaustion.

But his mind was still hazy. With blurred vision, he could only vaguely make out the woman’s figure, and he couldn’t see her face clearly.

He shook his head wryly. He had always been cautious, but last night was different. He didn’t know what went wrong. Until now, his vision hadn’t cleared up, and he could only see vague, overlapping images.

He frowned, picked up his suit, and took out a checkbook from his pocket.

Each check was worth a million dollars. He walked over to the bed and threw the checkbook at the woman carelessly.

The checkbook smacked her right on the face.

“Here’s ten million. Take this and don’t show your face in front of me again.”

Last night, he had completely lost control of himself…

At the thought of this, his expression darkened.

A rustling sound came from the bed. He knew that the woman had woken up.

“Take a morning-after pill and get out of Ploville. Do anything stupid and you’ll regret being born,” he added coldly.

Then he turned around and strode out of the suite without looking back.

Candice Blake was awakened by the checkbook hitting her on the face. Still groggy and half-asleep, she peeled her eyes open slowly.

She saw the man leaving. His back was to her. When he slammed the door behind him, she winced slightly.

Picking up the checkbook on the bed, she felt suffocated. The pieces of paper were as light as a feather, but they were as heavy as lead in her hands.

Ten million dollars? What a rich man!

But she didn’t want the money.

Yesterday, she was supposed to marry Greyson Harman.

Last night was supposed to be her wedding night.

And this very suite was specially prepared for them by the Harman family.

Yesterday was supposed to be the happiest day of her life.

She had been looking forward to this day for over ten years.

But the groom never showed up.

Instead…

A damned stranger had broken into her suite all of a sudden.

He violated her on her wedding night, insulted her, and he even wanted to send her away with money!

Who the hell did he think he was?

Her throat was bone-dry and she couldn’t make a sound. She struggled to sit up, ripped the checks, hoping to throw the shreds at the man’s back.

Unfortunately, the man had already left, and he wasn’t able to witness this.

Shreds of meaningless paper floated in the air like snowflakes.

Candice wrapped the quilt around her and wanted to get out of bed, but her whole body was so sore that she couldn’t move.

She didn’t know who that man was, and she had only seen his back just now.

What went wrong last night for her to end up like this?

She remembered waiting for Greyson for a long time. When he never showed up, she wondered if he was downstairs entertaining the guests. After a while, she fell ill. There was something wrong with her body. And then that man…

How? How did this happen?

Gritting her teeth, she tried to pull herself together and was about to get out of bed.

Suddenly, the door to the suite was kicked open.

The next second, all the lights in the bedroom were suddenly turned on, temporarily blinding Candice. She instinctively reached out to shield her eyes from the dazzling lights.

Several people rushed inside the room.

Before Candice could understand what was going on, she heard the shutter of a camera going off in front of her.

Rachel Harman, her mother-in-law, rushed over and slapped her hard in the face.

As if the physical abuse wasn’t enough, it was quickly followed by verbal abuses.

“You fucking bitch! How dare you fool around with another man on your wedding night? You have disgraced the whole Harman family!”

Chapter 1 Who Else Do You Want Besides Me?

I was in a neon-lit bar, totally inebriated. I lay in a man’s arms, wrapped my arms around his neck, and asked him with a smile, “How about coming home with me tonight?”

I felt the man’s body freeze for a moment. It was as if he never thought I would be so bold.

But he soon came back to his senses and flicked cigarette ash into the ashtray. A smile slowly crept on his face, and the look in his eyes became ambiguous.

“Of all the many men in the bar, why did you choose me?”

When the man spoke, his voice was low and lustful. His eyes seemed to pierce through my flesh and peep into my heart.

His gaze gave me an inexplicable feeling, and I suddenly wanted to run away.

But at the thought of that shameless couple, a tide of rage surged in me. I endured the embarrassment I felt and pretended to be a master of flirting. I should be grateful for the help of the alcohol because it gave me the courage to slide my fingers down his open neckline.

“Because you are the hottest among all the men here.”

I wasn’t lying about it.

It was true that there were so many men in the bar. But from the moment I decided to find a man to spend the night with to take revenge on my ex-boyfriend, I immediately got interested in this man at a glance. So I chose him.

My brain had been eroded by alcohol, and I couldn’t think clearly. But in my mind, I could still vaguely distinguish that he was very handsome.

He wore a gray suit, which was totally incompatible with the bar environment. However, the corners of his mouth curled up. He looked like a nobleman who entered a strange world by accident but enjoyed his adventure.

His noble and dissipated posture made him look damn sexy.

I couldn’t help swallowing hard and licking the corners of my mouth. I felt my throat dry all of a sudden.

I couldn’t help thinking that such a man must be sexier when he was having sex with a woman in bed.

The man raised his eyebrows leisurely, but he seemed to remember something. His face darkened, then he took my hand off his chest and said coldly, “I’m not interested in a woman who comes to me for sex.”

I froze for a while. When I realized he must be afraid I had some disease, anger surged in my heart.

But now that he had rejected me, I didn’t want to force him. I just said with some regret, “Then I have to find another one.”

Anyway, no matter who it was, I would give him my first time tonight.

I pursed my lips, stood up, and was about to leave. But I still didn’t want to be misunderstood like this.

After hesitating for a while, I turned around, stared at him, and said through clenched teeth, “Believe it or not, this is my first time.”

After saying this, I staggered and turned around to leave. But he suddenly pulled me back and held me in his arms again.

His Adam’s apple bobbed up and down and he looked at me dangerously. I felt like I was his prey.

He asked in a deep voice, “Who else do you want besides me?”

We were so close to each other that I could feel his hot breath spray on my face, making me numb all over.

“You don’t want a woman who comes to you for sex, right?”

As I asked this, I twisted my body, trying to break free from his arms. I didn’t notice that my voice was filled with grievance and coquetry.

He smiled and held me tightly in his arms.

He said hoarsely, “I was talking nonsense just now. But if you keep moving like this, I can’t guarantee what will happen next.”

I was stunned for a moment before I realized that my posture was really embarrassing now.

I wore a spaghetti strap tonight. And because of struggling just now, the strap hung loosely on my shoulder, revealing most of my plump breasts. As I breathed, they trembled up and down.

The moment this man stood up, my naked upper body would instantly be exposed to the public.

No wonder when he looked at me, his eyes were more lustful than before.

“Not here,” I said in a panic and held his neck tightly. “Your place or mine?”

I knew no man could refuse such an invitation, not to mention that his attitude had softened.

Sure enough, the next second, he picked me up and walked towards the door.

He moved so fast that I didn’t have time to fix my clothes. My breasts were still exposed, so I had to stick tightly to the man’s chest, allowing his suit fabric to rub against my naked breasts.

Along the way, I was tortured by him badly. I felt so sore all over my body that I didn’t know when he carried me into his place. When I came back to my senses, he pressed me firmly against the bed.

“Take your clothes off,” he whispered in my ear, licking my earlobe.

My face felt hot. I knew I was blushing all over. When I opened my mouth to say something, he suddenly kissed my lips.

“Be good. Take off your underwear. I want to see it.”

He kept giving me instructions in a hoarse voice. For some unknown reason, I couldn’t resist him. And the effect of alcohol made me lose my sense of shame and resistance.

I took my clothes off as he said. Then I spread my legs, letting him look at me with scrutiny and lust in his eyes.

“Stop looking now.”

His piercing gaze made me tremble all over. I felt so scared that I couldn’t help but cry. I twisted my body to hide.

But he pressed me on the bed again. His one hand firmly held my two arms above my head, and his other hand slowly touched my private parts, exploring them.

“No… No… No… It’s too deep…”

I couldn’t help trembling, and the tingling sensation from my lower body almost drove me crazy.

At this time, he was no longer as abstinent as he was in the bar just now. His eyes were full of madness dominated by desire, and he even said a lot of dirty words that didn’t match his temperament.

“Baby, you’re so hot.”

“Are you satisfied? Am I good?”

The corners of my mouth rose. I leaned over and bit his Adam’s apple. When I heard him groan, I licked it gently. I stuck out my tongue and teased him, trying to cover up my panic and nervousness.

No words came out of his mouth. But the increasingly intense movements of his body spoke for him.

“Hold me tighter.”

As soon as he said this, I felt my legs being parted, followed by a sharp pain.

I bent over in pain, and my tears overflowed again.

I was forced to bear his collision. But after the pain, I finally felt the pleasure.

I couldn’t help holding his strong and broad shoulders tightly. I felt like I was sinking into the sea of lust with him.

The man seemed tireless. When the sun rose and the soft sunlight seeped through the milky white curtains, he finally stopped moving. I couldn’t hold on any longer and fell into a deep slumber.

When I woke up, I felt sore all over, and my head hurt like it was about to explode.

I opened my eyes in a daze and heard the sound of the water from the bathroom. My mind went blank for a moment. Then everything that happened last night flashed through my mind like a movie.

But strangely, I couldn’t remember what the man looked like, no matter how hard I racked my brain. Was I too drunk to remember his face?

I reached out and rubbed my head, looking in the direction of the bathroom.

He was the man who turned me into a real woman. So I was curious about what kind of a man he was.

At this moment, the sound of the water in the bathroom stopped.

I held my breath and waited nervously for the man to come out. But suddenly, the phone next to my pillow rang.

When I looked at the screen, I saw my boss’s name flashing.

“Eunice, do you know what day it is today? If you don’t arrive before the meeting, you are fired!”

I was startled by this call. It was only then that I realized today was a big day for our company. We would negotiate the cooperation with Lloyds Company. If I didn’t show up in time, my boss, who always disliked me, would fire me.

At the thought of this, I no longer cared about the man in the bathroom. I quickly put on my clothes and walked towards the door. But when I passed by the bathroom, I faintly heard a low and pleasant voice. “Put off the meeting for half an hour.”

I subconsciously stopped. Should I at least say goodbye to him? But I was running out of time, so I opened the door and hurriedly left.

Irresistible To My Glamorous Ex-wife by Cliff Truss PDF Download

Summary

Before the divorce, everyone thought that Belinda was just a housewife who was good at nothing. Even her then-husband, Russell, believed this.

However, after the divorce, it was soon revealed that she was the eldest daughter of the Lindfield family. She was proficient in not only designing, but she was also a shrewd businesswoman who knew how to turn a profit. She had several brothers who doted on her. Various handsome men chased after her, determined to win her heart.

When she crossed paths with Russell again, she lifted her chin proudly and asked, “Do you regret divorcing me?”

Russell replied, “Yes. How about remarrying me?”

Chapter 1 Apologize Or Divorce

“Ah!”

An ear-piercing scream shattered the peaceful atmosphere in the Kameron family villa.

It was Rena Kameron’s 80th birthday party today, and the guests had gathered in the living room, chatting merrily. They now all turned alertly in the direction of the scream.

At the foot of the stairs, Cassidy Bradley was curled into a ball, writhing in pain. Her arms and legs were covered in bruises, which stood out against her flawless skin. She even had a busted lip, and blood dribbled down her chin.

Aghast and shocked, the crowd looked up the staircase, where a woman was standing at the top with an expressionless face.

Belinda Fletcher?

Immediately, the guests exchanged knowing looks. They could roughly guess what had happened.

They started to scold Belinda relentlessly. “You should’ve talked to Russell first instead of bullying this woman!”

“Indeed! A mature woman wouldn’t resort to violence even when it comes to another woman. Rather, she should’ve learned to tame her husband!”

Belinda clenched her fists tightly. She was so pissed that she couldn’t find any words to retort at the moment.

Those bystanders clearly had no interest in finding out the truth. They were too busy pointing fingers at Belinda with contempt and sneers.

Although Belinda and Russell Kameron were married, it was known to all in Eimbury that Belinda had practically snatched Russell away from Cassidy.

It was already gracious of Cassidy to not have taken revenge on that home-wrecker!

Belinda, on the other hand, hadn’t stopped making things difficult for Cassidy since then.

At this moment, Russell quietly emerged from the crowd, frowning at the scene in front of him.

When they saw how displeased he looked, someone couldn’t help but take pleasure in the spicy incident. “Russell, you’re finally here. Your wife was just bullying this poor woman!”

Hearing this uncalled-for comment, Russell frowned.

He hurried to Cassidy’s side, his eyes wrought with worry. “Are you okay, Cassidy? What happened?”

“I’m fine… It’s not Belinda’s fault… Sh-she didn’t do it on purpose. It’s actually me. I was just being clumsy…” Cassidy stammered in a feeble voice.

Not her fault?

Russell knew his wife very well. Belinda would do anything in her power to achieve her goal!

Russell flew into a rage and acted on impulse as soon as he heard Cassidy’s side of the story. He rushed up the stairs and hissed at Belinda, “Apologize to Cassidy at once!”

His voice was so cold and indifferent, it was almost as if he was ordering a lowly slave instead of his wife. Belinda could feel her heart sinking to her stomach.

Apologize?

Her own husband didn’t even bother to hear her side of the story and chose to believe Cassidy’s account without question. How ironic!

With a bitter smile, Belinda raised her chin stubbornly and countered, “I didn’t do anything wrong. Why should I apologize to her?”

“Is that so? Are you saying that Cassidy just rolled down from the staircase on her own?!”

“That’s exactly what happened. She wants everyone to think that I pushed her down the stairs!”

Hearing this lame excuse, the guests burst into laughter and pointed at Belinda with scornful expressions.

How could anyone be stupid enough to roll down the stairs on their own accord?

Who would risk their own life just to set another person up?

No one would believe such a crazy story!

Including Russell.

Scowling, he grabbed Belinda without warning and dragged her down the stairs. Being caught off guard, Belinda lost her balance and her forehead slammed into the stair railing, which swelled up immediately.

But Russell had no pity on her at all. On the contrary, he said sarcastically, “Bravo! You deserve it! Now, apologize to Cassidy!”

“No. I didn’t do anything wrong.” Belinda shook her head stubbornly.

It was true! She had done nothing wrong!

How could she apologize for something she didn’t do?!

“Russell, don’t worry about me. I’m fine. I don’t want you to fight with your wife over me.”

At this time, Cassidy, who was sitting on the ground, rubbing her bruises with a pained expression, tried to mediate the situation.

However, her approach only served to make Russell even angrier. He glared at Belinda with unmasked rage, wondering how a woman could be so vicious.

He grabbed Belinda’s chin roughly and snarled through gritted teeth, “Apologize or divorce. Make your choice!”

Belinda was taken aback by his resolute attitude. The crowd immediately broke into hushed whispers, gossiping about the couple in front of them heatedly. She, on the other hand, just stood there in silence.

Summary

Love is like a battle… A bloodless battle. And every battle has casualties. But this battle leaves even more torturous wounds. Because the wounds of love are left on one’s soul. He might be covered in scars that this battle of feeling left behind, she was the cure he never even knew he was looking for. He hid his emotions in the maze of his heart, but what to do, the wife he brought home, fancies puzzles.

Chapter 1 ‘Nothing’ That Lasts Forever

Nothing lasts forever…
Raelle had engraved this statement not only on the deepest part of her heart but also on her soul. Whether it be anger, hatred, sadness, happiness, or love. None of these emotions could affect you forever. Every emotion tends to wane in the current of time.
And since nothing was believed to last forever, Raelle resolved to be content with ‘Nothing’. Because as long as she felt nothing, these vain emotions couldn’t shake the harmony of her life. Human emotions had always been too difficult to understand for her brain.
She had seen people destroying each other in the name of love, jealousy, hatred. She had seen people stuck in the endless cycle of revenge. All of this was considered counterproductive to her.
Even though she never understood any of it, every nerve, every sinew, every thought of hers was hell-bent on the sole purpose of finding that ‘Nothing’ that would last forever. Because in her opinion, emotions would only make a person impulsive and then people would become slaves to their own emotions.
However, this simple logic was something she couldn’t make her grandfather understand. While her grandfather strongly believed that her lack of emotions was keeping her from enjoying life to the fullest, she didn’t agree. She didn’t believe in things she couldn’t explain with reason; just like emotions that went beyond the logic one’s brain could comprehend.
Nonetheless, she could never bring herself to hurt her grandfather or go against his words. And that was the reason, she was sitting in this cafe with her new blind date.
Seriously, she had even lost the count of how many times she had come to such blind dates. This was supposedly a never-ending cycle. She was tired of it but apparently, her grandfather definitely wasn’t tired of arranging such meetings.
She blinked her black peach blossom eyes at the man sitting before her with a smile plastered on her naturally red lips. Her eyes were charming with rows of thick, long, curly eyelashes that looked like densely packed black feathers of top-quality. Whenever she blinked, they seemed to flutter like butterfly wings — alluringly, making one’s heart itch.
She elegantly picked up the glass of water before her to take a sip. The remnants of water stuck on her soft red lips making them look like rose petals being caressed by the dewdrops.
Unbeknownst to her, each and every gesture of hers was making someone’s heartbeat quicken. Although Mr. Blind date only came here under the pressure of his family, he was now entranced. The girl before him had a beguiling face, her smooth jade-like skin, and her sharp features gave her a tempting vibe.
He really couldn’t bring himself to look away. He opened his mouth to introduce himself, “I’m…” But before he could continue, the girl before him slid a document towards him. His brows furrowed up as he looked at her inquisitively, “This is…?”
Raelle’s lips curled into a beautiful arc as she answered, “I heard Mr. Zhang wants to spread his wings and venture into the field of Augmented and Virtual Reality. However, your family isn’t very supportive of your ambitions.”
Mr. Blind date or Mr. Zhang whatever you’d like to call him, squinted his eyes at her, “Your point is?”
“I’m willing to be the supporter you need to spread your wings and soar high in the sky,” was her carefree response but her tone was very determined. She definitely wasn’t fooling around. Although her lips had a smile playing on them, her eyes left no room for argument.
Something flickered through Mr. Zhang’s eyes as he said, “There is no such thing as free meal… And I don’t think there is anything I can offer Miss Xiang.”
Raelle crossed her one leg over the other as she leaned back in her chair, “I don’t have the habit of making deals that aren’t beneficial to me. As it so happens, there is something you can offer me in return.” She took a brief pause and just as the smile on her face widened, she went on, “You just have to tell my grandfather that we are not compatible with each other.”
Doubt flashed through Mr. Zhang’s eyes or maybe it was disbelief. The girl before his eyes was offering him his biggest dream and only wanted him to say one thing to her grandfather? What game was she playing? He really couldn’t understand.
Seeing his hesitation, Raelle sighed out, “You can read the contract. I definitely won’t go back on my words.”
Mr. Zhang had just picked up the document when in a blink of an eye, someone splashed the glass of orange juice before him onto the face of the girl sitting opposite him. By the time he came back to his senses, he was being pulled out of his chair.
“You shameless little witch! How dare you try to seduce my boyfriend with this bewitching face of yours?!” The woman shrieked like a madwoman. “Just because you’re rich doesn’t mean you can steal my boyfriend from me.”
Unlike what one would expect, Raelle was rather calm in this situation as she took a napkin and dabbed her face. She even looked at this pair of lovers as if she was looking at something very amusing.
But her gaze made Mr. Zhang feel unsettled so he tried to pull the madwoman back saying, “Xinxin, stop causing trouble!”
“I’m causing trouble?” the woman was enraged. “We have been together for years and yet I am not allowed to stop this? What right does she have to come out of nowhere and steal my love just because she has power and money? Are those the only things important in life? Does my love and sacrifices for you amount to nothing?” Tears had trickled down the woman’s supple cheeks as she cried her heart out miserably.
Raelle yawned lazily and stood up at a languid pace. Her eyes settled on this pair of lovers and she spoke in a calm voice, “Ms. Whoever-you-are, you asked a question, let me give you the answer…” Her voice got dangerously low as she continued, “Love and sacrifices, people only use these terms to shackle others. To imprison them in the cage of guilt in the name of love.” She raised her hand and the woman cowered back and hid in her boyfriend’s arms. However, Raelle only raised her hand to snatch the contract documents from Mr. Zhang’s hands as she concluded, “Now, let me prove to you what money and power can do. Trust me, it’ll bring an even magical result than your so-called love and sacrifice.”

Melissa could tolerate being deceived and humiliated, but being framed was a different story.

Three years of marriage was less important in her husband’s eyes than a teardrop from his other woman, Arielle.

Finally, on a rainy day, she was ruthlessly abandoned.

Five years later, Melissa showed up with her adorable twins. She became world-famous in the medical field. That was when her ex-husband, Everett, came crawling back, asking her to help cure Arielle…

“Hey, old man, if you want to talk to my Mommy, you have to pass my test first.” Melissa’s young son, Merrick, raised his chin proudly.

‘Old man?’ Everett checked himself carefully. Did he look that old?

“Daddy, you really are very old…” Lindsey, Merrick’s twin sister, said with a pout.

Chapter 1 Facade

The bedroom was dimly lit, emanating a depressing aura. Melissa Sherman fell on the floor, clutching her stomach.

The pregnancy caused her discomfort. The stomach cramps were unbearable. Her face was pale as paper. She was drenched in a cold sweat.

Just then, the bedroom door flew open, and a man came into her sight.

Melissa reached out her hand, asking for help. “Honey, help me…”

However, a shiver ran down her spine when she met the man’s cold, distant gaze.

“Melissa, is this what you want?” The man’s voice dripped with disgust. “You played tricks and made me sleep with you. Do you think that will make me fall in love with you?”

Melissa and Everett Mayfield were engaged since childhood. Eventually, the two got married under their parents’ arrangement. However, Everett didn’t like her.

They were married for three years, but everyone knew her husband had no feelings for her, and she was just the nominal Mrs. Mayfield—nothing more than that. Therefore, everyone ridiculed her for three years.

Two months ago, the Mayfield Group held a banquet, and Melissa attended it as Everett’s wife. Unexpectedly, she and Everett had sex that night.

Regardless of how much she explained, Everett thought it was her plot.

Melissa frantically shook her head. “No, it wasn’t me. I was drunk that day. I don’t know what happened… Please trust me…”

Melissa felt a piercing pain in her stomach. She stretched out her hand and held Everett’s trousers in desperation. “My stomach hurts. Can you please take me to the hospital?”

“God, are you still acting?”

Everett’s face turned grim when he heard the word “hospital”. “Do you think you can get away with pushing Arielle downstairs and causing her miscarriage by pretending this way?”

His words were like a bolt from the blue. Melissa’s eyes widened in horror.

She couldn’t believe Arielle Sherman was pregnant. That meant the baby’s father was…

Everett’s jaw tightened. The dim light made him look regal and majestic.

He squatted down and grabbed Melissa’s throat. “Melissa Sherman, you are the most disgusting woman I have ever known!” he hissed, stressing every word.

Melissa could barely breathe. She patted his hand and struggled to catch her breath. “Let… Let go of me…”

Tears streaked down her cheeks. “Honey, I didn’t push her. She fell down herself. In fact, I’m also… I’m… I’m pregnant too… It is our baby…”

Everett was in a daze for a moment. Soon, he snapped out of his thoughts and glared at her.

No way! After that night, he had personally seen Melissa take contraceptives. It was impossible for her to get pregnant.

He assumed she was lying to him again.

“Even if you are really pregnant, do you think…” Everett sneered and shot her a contemptuous look. His voice dripped with sarcasm as he continued, “Do you think I’d want that bastard in your belly?”

Melissa was stunned. She looked up at him in disbelief. The blood in her body froze.

Before she could react, Everett threw her on the floor and ordered, “Throw this woman out! She is no longer a part of our family and can’t be in Andeport anymore.”

The bodyguards immediately grabbed Melissa and pulled her to her feet. It was raining cats and dogs, but the guards showed no mercy. They threw her out of the villa.

Melissa was wearing loose pajamas. The cold wind and rain intensified the pain in her stomach.

She braced herself from the howling winds and looked up at the gigantic villa before her.

The man she had loved with all her heart all these years had literally kicked her out of his life. She had ended up on the streets.
