Chased By Billionaire After One Night Chapter 1 Prologue – The New CEO

“Phoebe, pack your things and report to the CEO’s office now!” the HR manager, Alvis, commanded.

Phoebe, who had been carefully organizing documents at her desk, immediately stopped what she was doing and responded, “Got it, sir!”

“I mean NOW! Don’t keep him waiting!” Alvis urged. Phoebe didn’t dare hesitate any longer and hurriedly stood up to gather her belongings.

Ten minutes later, she was on the top floor, her arms full of items.

The company had been doing well, but for some reason, it was mysteriously acquired by an unknown corporation last week, and with that, a new boss had taken over.

The news had shocked the entire staff, including Phoebe. But what puzzled her even more was how she had inexplicably become the new CEO’s secretary.

Was she lucky or unlucky?

On the one hand, her salary had doubled, but on the other, she had suddenly become the target of envy and hostility from the female employees.

As she stepped out of the elevator and arrived at the CEO’s office door, she knocked lightly and politely said, “Sir, I’m your new secretary, here to report for duty!”

“…”

No response.

Thinking the new CEO hadn’t heard her, Phoebe raised her voice slightly and repeated, “Sir, I’m your new secretary, here to report!”

Still, there was no sound. Phoebe grew nervous. Had she knocked wrong, or was it the way she spoke?

As her mind raced with various thoughts, a deep, magnetic voice finally broke the silence.

“Come in.”

Two words, simple and cold, yet with a husky edge.

Phoebe’s heart skipped a beat. That voice-it felt strangely familiar.

A face flashed in her mind, and her heart ached with a dull pain.

Shaking her head to clear her thoughts, she told herself not to think about it.

That man was long gone from her life. For the past five years, she had lived peacefully, happy with her children. Why was she even thinking about him?

Pushing away the thoughts, Phoebe quietly opened the door and walked in.

“Hello, sir, I’m Phoebe Garcia, your new secretary!” she introduced herself politely, staring at the figure with his back to her.

But the moment he turned around, and their eyes met-those cold, piercing eyes-Phoebe froze in place.

The items in her hands scattered across the floor as her face filled with shock and terror.

Instinctively, she stepped back, retreating toward the door. As her legs wobbled from the shock, she nearly fell but caught herself against the wall.

Just as she steadied herself and was about to make a run for it, a strong arm suddenly grabbed her wrist and slammed her against the wall.

“Phoebe Garcia? Where do you think you’re going?” His voice was low, filled with hatred, each word spoken through gritted teeth.

“Bastard! Let go of me!” Phoebe struggled to break free, biting down on her lip in frustration.

Fate had a cruel sense of humor-she had wondered why something so good had fallen into her lap. Now she knew-it was this bastard pulling the strings! She had worked so hard to stay out of his life, to disappear entirely. Why couldn’t he just leave her alone?

“Let go!” she demanded, her voice tight with anger, pushing him as hard as she could. But the strength difference between a man and a woman was too great-her efforts were futile.

“Phoebe, do you really think I’ll let you go this time?” His dark, obsidian-like eyes grew even more intense as he tightened his grip on her wrist, deliberately causing her pain.

This time, he planned to make her pay for everything she had done.

Phoebe cried out in pain, his grip so strong it felt like he was going to crush her bones. Did he enjoy tormenting her?

Desperate, Phoebe did the only thing she could-she leaned in and bit his arm.

Alexander hadn’t expected her to bite him, and in his moment of pain, he released her. Phoebe, finally free, shoved him away and bolted for the door.

“Damn it!” Alexander cursed under his breath. There was no way he would let her escape again. He quickly followed after her.

Just as Phoebe reached the elevator, Alexander caught up and slammed her against the wall again, his large frame towering over her small body. He bent down and fiercely captured her lips in a brutal kiss.

Five years, and she was still as sweet as ever!

The moment he saw her again, he had fought to suppress the overwhelming desire that surged within him. But no matter how hard he tried, his heart wouldn’t stop racing for her.

He had to admit, over the past five years, she had transformed. Gone was the innocent girl-now she exuded a mature femininity that made her even more irresistible.

Damn this woman! Even with her poisonous heart, he couldn’t control his feelings for her. Despite knowing all the unforgivable things she had done, despite his plans to punish her, he still found himself unable to resist her.

Like now-he should be reprimanding her, but instead, all he could think about was kissing her.

He had missed these lips for five long years.

In all that time, he hadn’t touched another woman.

Now, after so long, finally tasting her sweetness again, he couldn’t control himself. He kissed her harder, his tongue forcing its way into her mouth, tangling with hers.

His kiss was angry, possessive, and dominant, forcing her to submit. The intensity of it was too much for her to bear. Finally, tears of frustration slid down Phoebe’s cheeks as she weakly pounded her fists against his chest.

She didn’t understand this man at all. Just moments ago, he had looked at her with hatred and disgust, but now-why was he kissing her?

What did he want? Would he only be satisfied once she was completely broken?

Her heart hurt, the pain unbearable, her tears flowing uncontrollably.

The kiss seemed to last forever, until Phoebe, who had initially resisted, found herself succumbing to the feelings she had fought so hard to deny. She hated herself for it, but there was nothing she could do. No matter how much she tried to forget him, her heart wouldn’t let go.

Five years, ten years-she knew she would never forget this man who had caused her so much pain.

At last, Alexander, satisfied with the kiss, pulled back slightly.

He remained close, his arms trapping her securely. Gazing down at her swollen, reddened lips, he reached out with a long finger, gently brushing against them.

His dark, unreadable eyes gave no indication of what he was thinking or what he intended to do next. He simply stroked her lips softly, over and over.

Phoebe, her voice raw with frustration, screamed, “What do you want from me?”

He smirked, raising an eyebrow. “What do I want? You’ll find out soon enough.” With that, he hoisted her up and carried her back into the office.

The door slammed shut behind them as he swept everything off his desk and laid her on top of it, his body pressing down on hers, trapping her completely.

Every cell in his body screamed that he wanted her-needed her.

This time, he wouldn’t let her get away. Not again.

If he had suffered for five years, then this woman would had suffered too.

She wouldn’t escape his grasp again.

Never.

  • Freya: The protagonist, a resilient woman who evolves from a neglected wife to a confident professional, reclaiming her independence.
  • Alan: Freya’s weak-willed husband, trapped between societal pressure and his obsession with Fiona, ultimately losing everything.
  • Fiona: Alan’s manipulative childhood sweetheart, whose dependency and recklessness lead to tragedy.

  • Philip: Alan’s friend, a voice of reason who bridges the gap between the characters’ conflicts.

The Neglected Wife Chapter 1

My husband Alan Barnes had been absent from my birthday for five years after marriage.

He gave me no gifts or blessings.

He said, “I have given you the money. You can buy whatever you want.”

But he started preparing for his childhood sweetheart, Fiona Jenkins’ birthday half a month in advance.

He said, “She is different. She only has me.”

As the only survivor of the accidental fire, he felt sorry for Fiona for more than ten years.

Looking at the photo on Moments of Fiona holding a cake and kissing his face, I commented, “He is just a loser. You can have him.”

1

Before midnight, Alan went into the bathroom with his phone.

I stood up quietly, leaned against the wall, and could hear his doting voice.

“How could I forget? I must be the first one to wish you a happy birthday.”

I felt bitter and heartbroken.

He had been like this for 5 years.

Today was Fiona’s birthday, and also mine.

He didn’t celebrate my birthday with me after we got married. He was always busy at this day.

We had a fight. I thought it would be different this year.

Half a month ago, when he ordered the cake, he asked me, “Do you like this dress?”

The spaghetti-strap backless fishtail dress in the phone sparkled silver.

I teased, “What kind of occasion can I wear it?”

He looked at me in surprise. “On your birthday. You are beautiful and don’t worry about other people’s opinions.”

I was looking forward to something different this year.

After all, he used to prepare for Fiona’s birthday behind my back.

So when it seemed he didn’t hide anything from me, I thought it must be for me.

I even wanted to be a generous wife.

I wanted to invite Fiona to celebrate our birthday together, after all, her parents had passed away.

But now it seemed that I was wrong.

Through the bathroom door, I heard Alan mention me with disdain.

“Freya is not a kid. Why should I coax her?

The more she doesn’t want me to go, the more I want to go.”

My fingernails hurt my hands and my heart was broken.

Was it immoral to celebrate his wife’s birthday?

Alan sighed deeply.

“She is becoming more and more ungrateful.”

I didn’t know what Fiona said but Alan laughed out soon.

“I’ll pick you up tomorrow. Remember to wear the dress.”

I was totally disappointed.

My husband had a weak character, but after marriage, he seemed to start rebelling.

His Nanny Mate Chapter 1

Moana

It was a hot summer evening, and I had just spent the entire day job hunting.

Finding work as a human in a world dominated by werewolves, especially in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the city, wasn’t easy. Even though I had a degree in Early Childhood Education, no schools wanted to hire me because I was a human. Werewolf parents were outraged at the thought of a “worthless human” teaching their children, as if my skills, drive, and education meant nothing.

So, I was now limited to service jobs, which were also unfortunately hard to come by because the job market was oversaturated with other humans who were also desperate to pay their bills.

If I didn’t find a job soon, though, I would lose my apartment. My landlord had already given me a thirty-day notice. If I didn’t pay my rent — and the three months of rent that I already owed — by the end of the thirty days, he was going to evict me.

At least I still had my boyfriend, Sam. He wasn’t extraordinarily well-off either despite being a werewolf, but at least he had a job and could pay his rent. We had been together for three years now and had known each other for five, so maybe it was time to talk about moving in together soon.

As I was walking down the packed city street, a thin layer of sweat caked to my forehead from spending the day running from business to business as I tried to find someone who would hire me, I started to realize how hungry I was. I couldn’t afford to eat out, but the delicious smells coming from the restaurants I passed began to make my mouth water.

One particular restaurant across the street caught my eye, but not because of the smell of food.

I stopped in my tracks, my eyes widening.

Inside the restaurant, right in the window, was Sam. He wasn’t alone; he was with another woman, and they were

Kissing.

“You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me,” I said out loud, causing a few passersby to turn their heads and give me weird looks.

Sam had told me that he was busy recently, that he had a lot of work
Was this what he was really doing? Cheating on me with some other woman?

The fury bubbled up inside of me, and without thinking, I stormed across the street and toward the restaurant window. My stomach turned as I came closer. This woman was gorgeous — basically a supermodel — and that didn’t make me feel any better about the situation. Not only was Sam cheating on me, but he was cheating on me with someone who looked like that.

She was thin, blonde, and tan with long legs, wearing a skimpy evening dress and high heels. I do get compliments on my face, body and long red hair, but in that moment, I felt so worthless as I stood there looking at Sam and his mistress.

How could he do this to me?

I stopped in front of the window. Neither of them even saw me standing there, they were so absorbed in their makeout session.

So, I banged on the window.

Sam and the mystery woman both jumped, their eyes widening when they saw me. I stormed over to the entrance and ran inside, ignoring the strange looks from the restaurant staff and customers, and ran up to where Sam and the woman sat.

“How fucking dare you?!” I yelled, my hands curled up into fists at my sides. “We’ve been together for three years and you’re cheating on me?”

The woman looked back and forth between Sam and I with an embarrassed expression on her face as the restaurant fell silent, but Sam’s face showed only anger and resentment. Without saying a word, Sam stood and grabbed me by the arm, dragging me out of the restaurant. He was too strong for me to resist, so I stumbled after him and back out into the busy street with tears streaming down my cheeks.

“You’re making a fool of both of us, Moana,” he growled once we were outside.

“I’m making a fool of us?” I replied, my voice still raised. “You’re making out with another woman in public!”

Sam merely rolled his eyes and pulled me further away from the door. His werewolf eyes burned a bright orange color and his face was wrought with anger.

“Control your temper,” he whispered, pushing me roughly up against the side of the building. “You’re just an ordinary human. You should feel lucky that I even entertained you for three years.”

His words stung, and my vision became clouded with tears.

“Why her?” I croaked as a sob caught in my throat.

Sam, the man who had told me he loved me for three years, merely chuckled. “You’re useless to me,” he snarled. “She’s a Beta. Her family is incredibly wealthy and powerful, and thanks to her, I’ll be starting a new job at WereCorp next week.”

WereCorp was the biggest corporation in the world. Not only did they control all of the banks, but they also developed the newest and most widely-used cryptocurrency of the 21st Century: WCoin. I never used it — humans weren’t allowed to — but it made a lot of werewolves extremely rich when it first came out.

He continued, “What have you done for me aside from mooching off of me because you can’t even get a job of your own? You’re nothing compared to her. How dare you even question my decision to move on.”

There was nothing else I could say; nothing else that could come to mind aside from getting the hell away from him. I shoved Sam away finally, pushing myself away from the wall. “Fuck you,” I growled, my rage taking over as I raised my hand and slapped him hard across the face. Passersby were looking at us now, but I didn’t care.

Without another word, I turned on my heel and stormed away without looking back.

As I walked numbly down the street and wiped the tears from my eyes, I thought about what Sam was like when we first met; he had been nothing more than a bullied Omega in high school with no confidence, no prospects, and no friends. I had helped him gain confidence with my love and support, and this was how he repaid me? By leaving me for some blonde, all for a job at WereCorp?

Nothing angered me more than knowing that my boyfriend of three years, and best friend for five years, had left me so easily over money and power.

I was still fuming when I stepped out into the intersection, too numb to look properly before crossing. Just then, I heard the sound of a car honking and looked up to see a luxury car driving straight for me. Cursing to myself, I stumbled backwards and fell into a puddle just before the car hit me.

The car came to a screeching halt next to me, which was surprising since I assumed that they would just drive away after nearly hitting me, but what surprised me even more was the person who sat inside the car when the window rolled down.

Edrick Morgan, CEO of WereCorp.

Edrick was known not only for being the youngest CEO in the history of the company and the heir to the largest fortune in the world, but also for his stunning appearance — and although I was incredibly hurt and angry about everything that had happened today, I couldn’t help but notice his strong jawline, his muscular shoulders and arms, and his incredibly handsome face.

I opened my mouth to say something about how he had nearly hit me, but before I could, he looked me up and down and tossed a wad of cash out the window, driving away with a rev of his engine.

Edrick Morgan, the CEO of WereCorp, had nearly hit me with his car
and tossed me money like I was some beggar.

All werewolves really were arrogant assholes.

I threw the cash on the ground and stood, cursing under my breath as I realized how soaked and dirty my clothes were. I’d have to go home and see if I could scrounge up some change to take them to the laundromat so I could continue job hunting tomorrow, but admittedly for now I just wanted to drown my sorrows.

I walked for a few blocks, finally spotting a bar that seemed nice and quiet.Taking a deep breath and smoothing down my stained shirt, I walked through the doors and approached the bouncer.

The bouncer narrowed his eyes at me and looked me up and down, taking in my dirty appearance sniffing the air in front of me.

“No humans allowed without a member escort,” he growled, folding his arms.

I frowned. “Member?” I asked. “I’m a paying customer. Just let me buy a drink.”

The bouncer shook his head and began to usher me toward the door like I was some sort of nuisance.

“Is this even legal?” I said, raising my voice. “You can’t just discriminate against humans like this! Is my money worthless here just because of–“

“She’s with me,” a stern and clear voice suddenly said from behind.

The bouncer and I both looked up and turned to see a man in a suit standing on the stairs.

Edrick Morgan.

She returns: CEOs baby mama has twins by Writer.M.

A woman scorned returns with a vengeance after a contract marriage and divorce from a billionaire, only to find the tables turning as he seeks redemption.

She Returns: CEO’s Baby Mama Has Twins” is a captivating story of love, betrayal, and redemption.

Sophia Whyte was used and discarded by billionaire Noah Milton. Now, she’s back with a vengeance and a secret that could shatter his world.

Will Noah’s regret be enough to win back the woman he wronged, or will Sophia’s thirst for revenge consume them both?

Plot Summary of She Returns: CEO’s Baby Mama Has Twins

Sophia Whyte is forced into a contract marriage with billionaire Noah Milton to save her mother.

After two years of mistreatment, including being bullied by Noah’s girlfriend and family, she’s divorced.

Five years later, she returns as a mother to Noah’s twins, seeking revenge, while Noah regrets his actions and tries to win her back.

Main Characters of She Returns: CEO’s Baby Mama Has Twins

  • Sophia Whyte: Initially portrayed as a victim of circumstance, Sophia is driven by her love for her mother and her need to escape poverty. She enters a contract marriage with Noah Milton, hoping for some semblance of respect and kindness, but is instead met with indifference and cruelty. After being cast aside, she transforms into a strong, independent woman fueled by a desire for revenge. However, beneath her hardened exterior lies a vulnerability and the lingering pain of her past experiences with Noah. She is now a mother and determined to protect her children.
  • Noah Milton: A powerful and influential CEO, Noah initially appears cold, calculating, and detached. He enters the contract marriage with Sophia for his own reasons, seemingly devoid of empathy for her situation. He is used to getting his own way. However, beneath his icy exterior lies a man capable of regret and remorse. After realizing the depth of his mistakes, he attempts to win Sophia back, showering her with gifts and attention. The death of his father deeply affected him, he uses scotch as medication.

She Returns: CEO’s Baby Mama Has Twins Chapter 1 Cut-off

“Here, sign it and leave!” he demanded. Sophia stared down at the document tossed at her. ‘Divorce agreement’ she read in her mind. Sophia smacked her lips. ‘He didn’t even wait for a solid week before getting rid of me,? she thought to herself.

She wanted to believe it was a dream, but that was her reality. Her husband wanted a divorce from her, after two years of marriage. Even if the marriage was based on a contract, it was still a marriage. Noah Milton paced the floor of what was supposed to be he and Sophia’s bedroom, a place she never dared to enter, except on special occasions.

She recorded the look on Noah’s face before speaking, “Noah, your dad just—” Sophia swallowed the next words about to escape her lips as Noah’s icy grey eyes met hers.

Sophia Whyte was married to the most influential man in the city. The CEO of Milton group Noah Milton. It would be an honor for any woman in the whole city to be engaged, not to talk of being married, to the most sought out man in the city, but for Sophia, it was simply a nightmare.

“Did you not hear me Whyte? I said get up and leave,” Noah’s eyes gradually changed color as his voice remained stern. His icy gaze sent chills down Sophia’s spine. `He referred to her by her last name`. She doubted her husband even knew her name.

Sophia was Noah’s executive secretary before they got married. It would have been the most beautiful Cinderella story making the headlines. ‘Rich CEO married poor office secretary out of love’, but that wasn’t the case.

A few months after she started working at the Milton group, Noah’s company, her mother fell terribly ill and needed an emergency surgery. Sophia was a hard worker and doubled her effort month after month.

Just when she had finally gathered the courage to ask for a three month advance on her salary, Noah blatantly refused her request claiming she hadn’t worked hard enough to make such a request. Instead of honoring her request, he decided to take advantage of the situation she was in.

He offered her a deal that any woman would have agreed to without complain, she had to get married to him for two years. In exchange, he would take care of all her mother’s medical bills and her loans. Noah knew how financially unstable she was.

At first, she didn’t quite understand it, a wealthy CEO who had captivated the hearts of all the women in the city, it wouldn’t have been exaggerating if someone said Country. He could have any woman he desired, he sure had the money and looks for it.

During the course of the marriage, Sophia understood why the immaculate billionaire needed a wife even though he already had a girlfriend.

It didn’t take long before she agreed. The pressure was too much for her to handle, she had no other choice. The doctor threatened to withdraw her mother’s treatment. Looking back at it, Noah was cruel, he would have let her mother die if she didn’t agree to his terms.

Their wedding came as quite a shock to everyone in the office, as well as family and friends. Noah only related with people of high social standing and wealthy backgrounds. Sophia had none of that, she was poor and barely getting by.

“But Noah—” she tried to speak but was cut off almost immediately.

“Don’t you dare address me by my name, remember your place!” he demanded. Sophia gulped hard, “I’m sorry sir.” A stranger, that was what she was to him. Even after two years of marriage he still treated her like a common staff member, she had no place in his house anymore.

“Okay, if you want me gone that bad, I can’t protest,” she said flatly, pulling the document over and signing it.

“What?” he asked with an arched brow.

“I said OKAY, I’m leaving.” She stood up from the bed unceremoniously. It seemed like the way she agreed without complain had gotten him a little upset; his frown deepened.

“Since you want to go that badly,” Noah strode into the walk-in closet, “Maybe I can help you pack.” His intention was to throw her clothes on the floor, but he was shocked when he didn’t find any.

“Don’t worry, I took them out that day.” She explained folding her arms against her chest, a tear escaping her eyes. Noah’s eyes trailed her whole body, “What on earth is fake sympathy for? I know you were only nice to my father because you wanted money. Now that he’s gone you want to continue your manipulation!”

Sophia loved his father so much. Noah’s father treated her like his own daughter. So much so that she slept in the hospital room where he was admitted. He wouldn’t let anyone apart from Sophia get close to him. Sophia’s heart sank to her feet, that was one of the most painful things she had ever heard him say. ‘Fake sympathy? Manipulation? If anything, I’m the only one getting manipulated’.

Noah toyed with her emotions at any chance he got. Some days he was sweet, other days he was unrecognizable. Being with Noah Milton was an emotional rollercoaster, fun at the beginning, scary towards the end.

“Don’t you say that, don’t you dare—” Sophia’s voice was shaky, she didn’t have the words to explain her disappointment. Noah’s eyes reddened and his nostrils flared up. He took giant strides towards Sophia watching as her eyes widened.

Noah held onto her shoulders, pinning her to the bed. “Say that again, say it!” he demanded. Sophia squirmed under him, trying her best to get out of his grip. He examined her expression. Noah saw the growing fear in her eyes and withdrew immediately.

“Leave,” he ordered, pointing in the direction of the door. “You’ve stayed here for way too long.” He rubbed his hand against his forehead. It was something he did when he felt frustrated, “Forget it!” he said after a moment of silence, “I’ll have Thomas send your things to you,” he didn’t even spare her a glance.

“There’s no need for that, I’ll pack my things and be on my way, it will be faster.” Sophia’s remark immediately triggered a strange anger in Noah. She wanted to leave, and fast. He expected her to beg, even though he wouldn’t listen to any of her pleading, he would have at least liked to hear it.

“No!” he shouted at no one in particular.

“I know I’m useless but I think a few bags won’t be a hassle!” she remarked.

“So, you’ve finally come to terms with your insufficiency. Your services over the year have been average, you couldn’t even hold a child in your stomach. Leave the city if you may, I can’t have people associating both of us together.

My Runaway Bride Hid A Million Mysteries Chapter 1 Found You

Helena Gibson’s brows were furrowed with concern as she stared at the pregnancy test. The tension she had been carrying seemed to finally dissipate with the sight of a single line indicating a negative result.

Bang!

The sound of the bathroom door being violently kicked open jolted Helena back from her brief relief.

Her face twisted into an expression of sheer panic as she turned towards the noise, her eyes wide with terror.

The man stormed in, his impatience booming through the room. “You’ve been in here forever! Did you check? Are you pregnant or not?”

Helena stood trembling, her face drained of color, the tiny red mole near her eye dimming with her fear.

The man loomed over her like a predator on the brink of violence, his presence oppressive and threatening.

He grabbed her arm forcefully, his eyes red and voice harsh. “Show me the test strip. Now.”

With shaking hands, Helena extended the strip towards him.

He snatched it, his laugh chillingly dismissive as his eyes glinted with a dangerous light.

Helena tensed, recognizing the calm before the storm.

This time, however, the man’s approach was unnervingly gentle as he stroked her cheek, his cruelty masked by feigned tenderness. “It’s alright, sweetheart. We’ll try again today. If it doesn’t happen, I might just leave you there permanently.”

A sharp glint of defiance flickered briefly in Helena’s eyes, though her face remained etched with panic, her eyes pooling with tears.

Pleased by her seemingly vulnerable demeanor, the man tightened his grip on her wrist, forcefully leading her to another room.

Bang!

The door slammed shut, echoing through the space as the other women in the room turned their heads in unison, their faces etched with the same vacant despair.

Like Helena, they were trapped in this dingy house, awaiting their fate as mere objects of pleasure for the elite on a secluded island somewhere in Eyrery.

A month prior, Helena had been forcibly brought to this place.

She was the firstborn of the Gibson family, whose fortune rested on the support of her mother’s wealthy relatives. Tragically, her mother died young, and within three months, her father had remarried, giving Helena a half-sister, Eunice Gibson.

The loss of his daughter devastated Helena’s grandfather, leading to his decline and eventual death, rendering Helena a forgotten member of her own family.

To avoid conflict, Helena kept to herself, not challenging Eunice. However, Eunice and her mother made it their mission to ensure Helena’s life miserable, depriving her of warmth and sustenance, and greedily eyeing the Gibson fortune.

What fueled Helena’s bitterness further was the betrayal on her 21st birthday, when her stepfamily drugged her and sold her off to a remote island off the coast of Eyrery.

Reflecting on her fate, Helena’s gaze hardened.

She moved forward, and the women in the corner shuffled to make space for her.

In such dire circumstances, unity was essential, yet no one dared approach her, their eyes wide with apprehension.

On Helena’s first day here, rumors had spread that she had been taken to a club and had serviced a high-profile client.

Since then, she had been subjected to frequent pregnancy tests—evidence that those in charge were eager for her to conceive, likely to blackmail the influential patron.

This mysterious figure was undoubtedly affluent.

A woman with short hair next to Helena whispered worriedly, “Hey, are you pregnant?”

Helena’s fists tightened reflexively.

Her thoughts flashed back to that night at the club, her attempt to flee leading her into a dimly lit private room.

Suddenly grabbed and forced against a sofa, she found herself staring up into piercing, icy eyes as a hand clamped her chin.

Though capable of defending herself, the knife at her throat left her powerless.

The ensuing violence was a blur of pain and torn clothing, the last thing she remembered before blacking out was the sinister, intricately inked Henna tattoo on the man’s hand glowing ominously in the dim light.

When she regained consciousness, she was back in the apartment where the girls were been held captive.

Helena sensed the gravity of her situation—this was merely the start.

Soon, she was once again escorted from the apartment.

Silently following the man, her thoughts churned wildly. She could not endure another night at that club. She had to escape. She needed to avenge her past and reclaim her mother’s legacy.

Yet caution was paramount; the man was armed with a gun.

In a moment of desperation, she made her move.

With sudden ferocity, Helena shoved the man aside and dashed for the stairs!

Caught off guard, the man stumbled, but then recovered, shouting after her in rage, “Damn it! You think you can run away? I’ll kill you!”

Helena didn’t look back, descending the stairs in a flurry. Reaching the second floor, she didn’t hesitate, climbing onto the windowsill.

As the man’s hand nearly grasped her, she jumped!

The stark sound of screeching brakes ripped through the quiet as she hit the pavement.

Blinded by the glaring headlights, she crumpled to the ground. The distinct sound of leather shoes approached across the cobblestones, halting ominously before her.

Blurry and disoriented, Helena saw the gloss of black leather shoes enter her field of view, and a chilling, low voice declared from above, “Found you.”

My Possessive Alpha Twins For Mate Chapter 1

We pulled up to the rickety old house, and despite the sea of melancholy that had engulfed me lately, I felt a twinge of excitement. The house was neither new nor luxurious, but it was more than I had anticipated.

We had moved from California, where we lived in a two-bedroom apartment in the worst part of town. Walking to work each day had become a constant nightmare. While thankful for the move, I couldn’t help but expect the worst.

I’ve been living with my mother and her husband for three years, and saying I hate it is an understatement. I was raised by my amazing grandmother for most of my life until she passed away a few years ago. My mother, who insists I call her Lauren as if I’m some stranger she found on the street, was the only relative left to take me in.

Lauren and I have a non-existent relationship: she pretends I don’t exist, and I stay out of her way. The real issue is her husband, Darren, who drinks far too much and becomes a complete asshole when he does. I keep my distance from him when he’s been hitting the bottle too hard.

We moved to Georgia because Lauren got a job offer. Darren can hardly hold a job, so Lauren pays most of the bills. Typically, I work part-time and use my earnings to buy the necessities Lauren refuses to provide.

The new house was much bigger than I had expected, with chipped white paint and a crooked porch jutting out from the front. The only thing I looked forward to in this cross-country move was finally having my own bedroom. In California, my “bedroom” was the unused dining room blocked off by a curtain, as Darren insisted he needed the second bedroom as an office.

I climbed out of the car, stretched, and slung my backpack over my shoulder as I walked to the front porch. I could hear Lauren and Darren already arguing, but I had learned to tune them out successfully. The front porch creaked under my feet, but I didn’t mind. Darren only ever stepped outside to run to the liquor store, so I would have plenty of time to myself on the porch.

Lauren opened the front door, and I followed her inside behind Darren. Without wasting any time, I headed upstairs to my bedroom.

“The smallest room, Sophia. Don’t forget it,” Lauren reminded me, not that I could.

I was instantly grateful to find a bathroom close to my bedroom. I smiled when I peeked into Lauren and Darren’s room and saw they had their own connected bathroom, which meant Darren would leave me alone for a change. He had a habit of pushing boundaries when he was drunk, but he was easy to escape when intoxicated.

I walked into my bedroom and surveyed the peeling paint on the walls. Once I found a job, I could make this room more presentable. I had saved up a small fund since I was old enough to work. While I was a straight-A student, I needed a backup plan in case I didn’t get a scholarship. Escaping this place the moment I turned eighteen was always on my mind.

I dropped my backpack on the floor and looked around. The room was small but had a working door and four walls. A rickety queen-sized bed sat against the far wall, along with a dusty oak dresser. I ran downstairs and grabbed my large suitcase from the trunk of Lauren’s car, struggling under its weight. Lauren and Darren were still arguing, giving me plenty of time to wrestle my suitcase to the top of the stairs.

Everything I needed fit comfortably in my suitcase. I didn’t have many clothes, but I had grown used to that sad fact.

I stuffed my clothes into the dusty dresser, pulling out an outfit for school tomorrow. Lauren had wasted no time enrolling me at the local public school, anything to get me out of the house and out of Darren’s thinning hair. I stuffed my debit card in my back pocket and ran downstairs. Lauren had her back turned, bickering at Darren as he set up the small TV in the living room.

“Where do you think you’re going?” Lauren snapped, turning to face me as I opened the front door. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. She never cared where I went before.

“I’m gonna find something for dinner,” I shrugged. I had stopped eating dinners with Lauren and Darren long ago. Since the court made Lauren my legal guardian until I turned eighteen, I refused to give her any of the money I worked for, supporting myself to the best of my ability.

“Get me a six-pack while you’re out,” Darren snapped, his beady eyes narrowing at the TV. I gritted my teeth. “I’m seventeen,” I retorted, turning on my heel and walking out the front door, ignoring Darren’s mumbling.

I stepped onto the main road, sighing. I had no idea where I was going. After a moment, I decided to go right, hoping to find a gas station for a bag of chips and a bottle of water.

After walking for about fifteen minutes, I sighed with relief when a small corner store came into view. That was one thing I’d miss about California. There, you could walk in any direction and find a gas station or grocery store.

Inside the poorly lit corner store, I greeted the cashier, a girl not much older than me. I grabbed a bag of chips, a couple of bottles of water, and a granola bar, then walked to the register.

“Hi, do you know where Waltzlake High School is?” I asked as I swiped my debit card. The girl, with jet-black hair streaked with green, nodded. “Just follow this road until you reach the traffic light and turn left. You won’t miss it.”

“Thanks,” I smiled, taking my receipt.

“New around here?” she asked, smirking.

“That obvious?” I chuckled.

The girl nodded. “Town’s pretty small. Most people live further out in the woods.”

“Why not just live in town?” I asked, furrowing my brows.

“People around here like their privacy,” she shrugged.

I left the corner store feeling confused and wary. Her words didn’t give me much hope for school tomorrow. If this town was as small as she implied, I wouldn’t go unnoticed. With only one more year left of high school, my goal was to escape Lauren and Darren the moment I turned eighteen.

I woke up to the sound of my old alarm clock. It was six in the morning, leaving me plenty of time to get ready and walk to school. Lauren would already be at work, and Darren typically slept in until 11 a.m. or later. I crept out of my bedroom and into the bathroom, making as little noise as possible. Darren was an absolute nightmare if you woke him up.

I combed my long chocolate brown hair, noting how different it was from Lauren family’s light blonde hair. My heterochromia made me stand out even more, with one eye an incredibly light blue and the other a deep chocolate brown. My grandma rarely spoke of my father, but when she did, she mentioned he had the same condition. I suspected this was why Lauren, my own mother, didn’t like me. Something bad had happened between her and my father, resulting in him leaving us.

Every month, Grandma received a mysterious check written out for me, but since moving in with Lauren, she used them for herself and Darren. I looked in the mirror and frowned, feeling like a walking abnormality. At my old school, I had friends, but there were always bullies who mocked my condition. It took a long time to accept and find beauty in my uniqueness.

I slipped on a simple outfit-skinny jeans, a white tank top, and a black jacket-to blend in. Grabbing a granola bar, I left the house and walked to school, following the girl’s instructions. By the time I arrived, the parking lot was nearly full. Students hopped out of their cars, heading to the front doors, conversations filling the air.

I merged into the crowd, trying to blend in, and made my first stop at the office, easily identifiable by a large sign hanging from the ceiling. A plump woman in a purple sweater greeted me with a smile. “Are you new here?”

I nodded and gave her a small smile. “Sophia Drake.”

“Beautiful name,” she said, rifling through papers. “Here you are, Ms. Sophia.”

“Thank you,” I replied, taking the papers and turning to leave. As I looked down at my class schedule, I slammed into someone.

It felt like hitting a brick wall, but the strong smell of cologne indicated otherwise. I landed on the floor with a thud, and the hallway quickly quieted. Looking up, I saw two very large, very angry twins. They looked like they belonged on a magazine cover rather than at a high school.

Love On Ice: Don’t Leave Me, My Charming Liar Chapter 1 I Want To Be Mrs. Brooks

The winters in Ulares were bone-chilling, but inside Cloudscape Mansion, the air was thick with warmth and passion.

“Ethan… take it easy…”

Nyla Green’s voice wavered as she gripped the corners of the pillow. The dim glow of the bedside lamp painted her flushed cheeks in a soft, rosy hue, adding a playful intimacy to the moment.

“And how should you address me?” Ethan Brooks teased, his voice a low rumble as he leaned in, grazing her ear with his teeth. His warm breath sent shivers down her spine.

“Uncle Ethan
 please
” she gasped, her voice catching as she curled into his embrace.

Ethan’s lips quirked into a satisfied smirk. Her obedience always thrilled him, and her breathless pleas only added fuel to the fire.

It was a dynamic he relished. He loved when she called him that both in and outside the bedroom. It served as a reminder as well as a way to spice up their intimacy. Nyla always found herself with no choice but to address him that, embarrassed and annoyed.

Two weeks apart had only heightened Ethan’s need for her. His business trip had been long, and he’d missed her body. Despite having had sex with Nyla many times, he still found her body irresistibly attractive. He naturally wouldn’t settle for one round.

Sensing his desire, Nyla moved against him, her lithe body swaying as she sought to meet his needs.

“Being so eager tonight, aren’t you?” Ethan murmured, his tone laced with amusement.

“Don’t you like it when I’m eager?” Nyla whispered, her voice coy yet tinged with boldness. “Uncle Ethan
it’s been a while since we tried something new.”

He arched a brow, his grip tightening on her waist as he shifted their positions with ease. The hunger in his eyes was undeniable.

“Then don’t disappoint me,” he said, his voice thick with authority.

Nyla swallowed hard, her face turned away as she braced herself, determined to please him. She had a favor to ask tonight, and she knew Ethan wasn’t the type to grant requests freely.

By the time their fevered exchange finally finished, the early hours of morning had crept in. Nyla lay tangled in the sheets, her skin marked with faint impressions of their passion, the cool air biting at her exposed legs.

She propped herself up as Ethan emerged from the bathroom moments later, his lean frame illuminated by the pale light. Droplets of water clung to his chest and slid down his chiseled abs, leaving little to the imagination.

He lit a cigarette, settling into the armchair by the window, his mood seemingly lighter than usual. “What is it you want?” he asked, exhaling a plume of smoke, his tone casual but sharp.

“Will you give me anything I ask for?” Nyla’s voice was soft, hesitant, her hopeful gaze fixed on his sharp, handsome face.

“Depends on what it is,” Ethan replied evenly.

“I want to be Mrs. Brooks.”

The warmth in Ethan’s expression disappeared, replaced by a glacial stare that sent a chill down her spine.

Nyla’s heart sank as he let out a mocking laugh. He crushed the cigarette into the ashtray with deliberate force, as if snuffing out her boldness. “I’ve been too soft on you,” he said coldly. “You think that gives you the right to ask for something like that?”

Nyla bit her lip, her hands trembling as she clenched the sheets. “Callie’s back, isn’t she? You’re planning to marry her, aren’t you?”

Callie Higgins—the name itself was enough to twist Nyla’s gut. She was Ethan’s first love—the woman who had once saved his life from kidnappers when he was eighteen. After the incident, their families agreed that Ethan and Callie would get engaged when the time was right.

Ethan’s expression flickered, just for a moment, but it was enough for Nyla to know she’d struck a nerve. She’d been with him for two years; she knew him well.

“I just want a status. You know how hard it is for me in the Brooks family. Without protection, I—”

“Protection?” Ethan cut her off, his tone sharp. In a flash, he was in front of her, gripping her chin firmly. His dark eyes bored into hers, fierce and unyielding. “Do you think I don’t see through you, Nyla? You think you’re worthy of being Mrs. Brooks?”

Harvest Moon: Mated To My Four Stepbrothers Chapter 1 Answers

Daniel’s P.O.V.

I walk into the conference room to see everyone waiting for me, I sit down at the head of the table and take the time to look at my Sons before I divert my attention to the other people in the room.

“The Council has asked me to pay a visit to a Pack that has requested help. Two of their neighboring Packs are at odds with one another and even though the Pack has remained neutral a few days ago a fight came within their borders.”

I hear my Sons growl at my words and I see my Gamma rolling his eyes at the sounds. “No fatalities, but the Council wants me to put a stop to the quarrel. Just to make sure this doesn’t get out of hand.”

I tell Brent and Gabe that they will come with me and they nod their acknowledgement of my demand. They have been with me as long as I have been alive, growing up together as their Fathers were my Father’s Beta and Gamma.

I leave my Sons in charge during my absence and no one doubts my decision, everyone knows that my Sons can handle the Pack. They have done so for years and it makes it a little easier to travel at request of the Council.

Traveling around also means I might be able to find a second chance Mate, something I had not wanted for a long time after losing my first Mate. From the moment we met I had known that we would not have forever.

“Dad, where did you go?” Justin asks, pulling me from my thoughts. I look up and see that it is just the five of us, I know exactly why Brent and Gabe left as I had requested them to do so before the meeting.

“The four of you have asked me the same two questions over the years and I was never ready to give an answer to those particular questions. Both questions are linked when it comes to answering them.

After we lost your Mother we didn’t want a second chance and for that reason we stayed in the Pack’s territory, knowing that we wouldn’t find her here. This changed about five years ago, when I saw an old friend of mine again.

He had also lost his first Mate and like me he didn’t want a second chance Mate, but he found her when she accidentally walked on to his territory. He showed me what I was missing in my life, especially if I decide to step down as Alpha.

Joshua and I decided after that day that we would start looking for her and let the four of you take more responsibilities when it comes to the Pack. That is the main reason for me to help out the Council if they ask for my help.”

I look at my Sons and they all have smiles on their faces, happy that I finally came to my senses. “What is the other question, Dad?” Jayce asks and I know this will be a harder one to answer.

“When I met your Mother, the first thing she said to me was “I don’t know how much time we have together” and for a moment I didn’t know what to say to her. I had just met her and she was already talking about leaving me.

Your Mother was born with a heart defect and not a single Doctor was able to help her. Every day she lived was a day on borrowed time and your Grandparents were happy with every day they could spend with her.”

I let my Sons think about that for a moment before I continue with my story “Your Grandparents were so grateful that she found her Mate and for a few hours we hoped that with us marking each other her problems were solved.

But it didn’t turn out that way and your Mother told me to reject her as she was afraid she couldn’t make me happy. Joshua and I told her that she was our Mate until the day she would die and that we would count our blessings for every day we had together.

When she found out she was pregnant with you, Jayce, she panicked and for a few moments I was afraid I would lose her right then and there. It happened with every pregnancy and every time she made it through the pregnancy.

Only for her to worry every single day that she wouldn’t be able to see all of you grow up, but she did manage to see you all grow up. The only thing she regretted in the end was that she would never meet your Mates or your children.

She wanted you to know one thing, thou. She wouldn’t change anything even if it meant she could have spent more time with me. She loved each of you so much and I know she would be proud of the men the four of you have become.”

I look at my Sons with tears in my eyes and even though they are all grown up I hear them sobbing. I hug my Sons one by one and I know they will cherish their Mates even more, when they finally find them.

Jason helps me pack a suitcase for my visit and when he puts in some regular clothes I look at him questioningly. “Just in case, Dad.” He says as he looks at me with a huge grin on his face.

My Sons are all very different in character and I hope they will find the women that will balance them, just as their Mother had been my balance. “Dad, I really hope that you will find her.” Jason whispers as he puts his hand on my shoulder.

We are able to find our Mate after we turn eighteen, but only during the Harvest Moon and that is only once a year. Unlike my Sons I don’t have to wait for the Harvest Moon, I will be able to find my Mate on every day of the week.

That is the benefit of having lost your first Mate, not that I like that I lost my first Mate. My second chance Mate will be able to find me, even if I am her first Mate.

The Council is still trying to figure out why it works this way, but so far they have been unable to find the answers. Jax pulls me from my thoughts as he asks me when I will be leaving.

“In the morning, so I can at least get a good night sleep. I just hope it won’t take me too long to resolve this. I want to be home for the Harvest Moon festival. Who knows, maybe you guys get lucky this year.” I answer him.

My Sons all roll their eyes at me and I know that they doubt finding her any time soon. Gabe and Brent chuckle, because they know why my Sons hate the festival and truth be told I can’t blame them.

Gabe and Brent haven’t found their Mate either, but they seem content with things the way they are. They have been traveling around during the Harvest Moon for two reasons.

For one to find their Mate and for the second, they want to know which Packs are not against same sex relationships. Yeah, both my Beta and Gamma are gay and I couldn’t care less about it, they are my friends.

So, every year they each pick a Pack to travel to and if it is a good Pack, the other will travel there the year after. So far there have been a handful of Packs that don’t like same sex Mates, but for the most part they have been welcomed with open arms.

Because we are going away on Council business, they decided to spend this year at home and travel to the Packs they chose next year. They said they didn’t mind waiting another year.

My One-Night Stand Turned Out To Be Mr. President? Chapter 1 A Mysterious Man

Jemma Martin reached the fourth floor just as an intense wave of heat swept through her body, leaving her parched and unsteady. She was typically in excellent health, so this reaction wasn’t the result of physical exertion.

A chilling thought crossed her mind… She might have been drugged.

With the elevator out of service, Jemma had prepared herself for the climb. Before starting, she’d taken a sip of water offered by her closest friend, Kaelyn Mason, who claimed it would “replenish her energy.”

That water had been spiked.

As Jemma struggled against the discomfort and pressed on, a sudden force slammed her against the wall. A hand clamped over her mouth before she could scream.

A man loomed over her, his labored breaths brushing against her ear.

His grip was unyielding, leaving her gasping for air.

Panic surged within her as she struggled against him in the dimly lit stairwell. His features were hidden by the shadows.

Jemma whimpered, trying to pry his arm away, but her attempts were futile.

Her heart raced. She couldn’t afford to die here. She had to meet the President and beg him to save her father.

Her father, the country’s Minister of Finance, had always lived a life of integrity and simplicity. Yet, not long after the new president took office, Jemma’s father was falsely accused of embezzlement. Despite his frail health, he was detained at the police station and would soon face court for a final verdict.

But her father was innocent.

Jemma had sought help from many people to clear her father’s name, but all had turned her away. They said the case was personally overseen by the new president, with a complete chain of evidence and a confirmed charge. No one wanted to get involved in such a quagmire.

With no alternatives, Jemma pinned her hopes on the newly appointed president.

Kaelyn had informed her that the President would be at this hotel today, giving Jemma her only chance to meet him directly.

She couldn’t waste more time dealing with the man holding her.

Unable to resist further, Jemma decided to take another approach.

She relaxed, letting her arms fall to her sides, and looked up, hoping he’d notice the sincerity in her eyes.

The man saw her bright, watery gaze, and perhaps sensing her harmlessness, slowly removed his hand from her mouth.

Jemma didn’t dare speak right away.

Standing before this tall, sturdy man, she felt so small and powerless.

She waited for him to let her go entirely, but he stayed close, showing no intent to release her. His body radiated heat as he reached out to caress her face.

Jemma felt a strange change within her, and a soft moan escaped her lips. In the next moment, the man kissed her.

That kiss seemed to break some seal between them, sparking a fire.

The man’s hands roamed freely over Jemma, sending shivers through her.

She clung to him, wrapping her arms around his neck. Their passionate intimacy was set ablaze.

She didn’t know how long it lasted, but eventually, unable to bear her discomfort any longer, she bit the man’s shoulder. He grunted, his body trembling, and she noticed his back was covered in blood.

“You… You are injured?” she asked, shocked by his strength despite his injury.

She recalled the solid muscles she’d felt earlier.

“Don’t move. Let me bandage you,” she offered.

Jemma scolded herself for not noticing the man’s injury sooner, especially given the intimacy they had just shared—not once, but twice—in the stairwell. It was absurd.

The man, worn down by the drug and his wound, didn’t resist as she tended to him.

She adjusted her clothes first, then helped him lean against the wall. She tore his shirt sleeves off to fashion a makeshift bandage for his wound.

“You should go to a hospital,” she said.

Jemma pulled out her phone to call for help but saw several missed calls from Kaelyn and her stepmother.

Startled, she remembered setting her phone to silent to avoid interruptions while seeking the President.

So many missed calls could only mean something urgent.

Just as she was about to call back, her stepmother called her again.

“Your father had an incident at the police station,” she said.

Jemma’s face paled. She couldn’t afford to delay further and prepared to leave immediately.

Suddenly, the man grabbed her wrist, his voice low. “Your name?”

Before Jemma could answer, a scream from the phone interrupted her. She pulled free from the man’s grasp and rushed downstairs.

Halfway, Kaelyn called her again. “Where are you, Jemma? Why haven’t you come to Room 1001? Everyone’s losing patience.”

Jemma stopped briefly, her tone cold. “Sorry, Kaelyn, I can’t come now. I have urgent family matters.”

Kaelyn, still in the hotel lobby, watched as Jemma hurried away. She frowned as she noticed Jemma showed no signs of being drugged.

The Jilted Heiress’ Return To The High Life Chapter 1 His Unattainable Love

Corrine Holland stood moments away from marrying Bruce Ashton, her dream finally within reach.

The wedding march echoed through the hall as she glided down the red carpet in her immaculate white gown, moving toward Bruce who awaited her at the altar.

Bathed in streams of golden light, his white suit seemed to shimmer, highlighting the refined features that had first captured her heart years ago.

Their relationship had weathered countless storms over three years, and now, despite her family’s refusal to bless their union, her cherished dream approached reality.

As Bruce stepped forward to present her bouquet, tears of joy threatened to spill from her eyes.

The priest’s kind eyes settled on the couple as he spoke. “Do you, Bruce Ashton, take this woman to be your wife? Will you love her, honor her, respect her, and accept her, in sickness and in health, for as long as you both shall live?”

Corrine’s heart fluttered as she turned expectantly toward Bruce, awaiting his answer.

Instead of joy, however, his features twisted with uncertainty, an unsettling hesitation clouding his expression.

Suddenly, the doors burst open. Rita Ashton, Bruce’s younger sister, stumbled in with tears streaming down her face. “Bruce, it’s bad!” she cried, looking lost and desperate. “Leah… she… she…”

A cold wave of dread washed over Corrine. Her grip tightened around Bruce’s hand as her heart hammered against her ribs.

The name awakened painful memories—Leah Burgess, the unreachable star in Bruce’s firmament.

When the Ashton family had fallen from grace years ago, Leah had chosen opportunity abroad over love, prompting Bruce to sever ties and turn to Corrine.

Yet just a month ago, Leah had mysteriously reappeared.

Bruce’s face drained of color. “What happened to Leah?” he demanded, panic threading through his voice.

“Leah’s bleeding won’t stop,” Rita sobbed. “The doctor says she might not make it!”

Without hesitation, Bruce wrenched his hand from Corrine’s and bolted toward the door.

Corrine lunged forward, catching his arm. “You can’t leave!”

Her body trembled as she met his gaze, pleading. “Bruce, this is our wedding ceremony. Would you really abandon it?”

Whispers rippled through the gathered crowd, their mocking glances piercing her like daggers.

Tears threatened as she beseeched him, “Bruce, couldn’t we at least complete the ceremony?”

“Leah was struck by a car while saving me. I can’t abandon her now!” Bruce struggled against her grip, his expression hardening into something foreign and cold.

“Corrine, you know this marriage is merely a transaction. Your role is to be Mrs. Ashton in name—nothing more. Don’t interfere in my personal matters.”

A transaction.

The word echoed in the hollow chamber of Corrine’s heart as she stared at his unyielding face.

Shock slowly transformed into bitter understanding, twisting her lips into a mockery of a smile. “So that’s all our marriage meant to you?” she whispered, her voice heavy with realization. “Just a business deal?”
